Your Halloween party guests will go nuts when they see this Popcorn Bowl Jack-O-Lantern. It's completely edible! The bowl is crafted out of orange-colored white chocolate popcorn, is decorated with modeling chocolate, and is filled with even more Halloween popcorn.

This Popcorn Bowl Jack-O-Lantern is going to be smack dab in the middle of my dessert table this weekend at our Halloween party along with dozens of other sweet treats. It is 100% edible, quite large, and really stunning.

I just know my guests are going to flip when they see it. My friends and family love my white chocolate popcorn and I always have lots of it on hand for my parties. This year, instead of serving the popcorn in a plastic bowl, I thought it would be more fun to serve it in one of my edible popcorn bowls.

As soon as I made the first bowl a few months ago, I imagined how it would look decorated for holidays and was certain it would look great as a jack-o-lantern for Halloween.

    Halloween Popcorn Bowl Jack-O-Lantern

I couldn't be happier with how it turned out, especially because I hit a snag while making it. The plastic bowl I purchased to use as the mold looked like it had straight sides, but I realized when I had trouble un-molding my popcorn bowl, that the sides actually tapered in. Not good. The opening needs to be either the same size or larger than the bottom of the bowl, so the popcorn bowl will easily pop out.

I had to squish the bowl and compact the popcorn in order to get it out. I was shocked that neither the plastic bowl nor the popcorn bowl cracked. I did a little happy dance when the popcorn bowl made it out safely.

So, if you plan to make this, or any edible popcorn bowl, be sure to really examine your plastic bowl carefully. If you have the right bowl, this is a pretty easy treat to make.

    • 60 ounces melted and tempered white chocolate colored orange using candy coloring**
    • OR melted Orange Candy Melts
    • OR white confectionery coating colored with orange candy coloring
    • 3 ounces dark modeling chocolate recipe, here or black fondant
    Halloween Popcorn:
    • 1.8 ounces popped popcorn about 9 cups
    • 16 ounces melted and tempered white chocolate or melted white candy melts plus 2 more ounces to drizzle over top
    • 10 Halloween Oreos
    • ½ cup Reese's Pieces
    • ⅓ cup caramel bits
    • ¼ cup toffee bits
    • 26 pumpkin shaped pretzels I found mine at Target
    • 2 ounces melted and tempered dark chocolate or melted black candy melts
    Supplies:
    • large plastic bowl to be the mold for your popcorn bowl
    • be sure the sides of the bowl taper out or straight up and the opening is larger than any other part of the bowl
    Instructions
    1. Pour 1.8 ounces (9 cups) popped popcorn into a large mixing bowl.
    2. Pour 20 ounces orange-colored white chocolate or candy melts over popcorn

    3. Toss to coat.
    4. Immediately pour the popcorn into the plastic bowl (mold) and start pressing it into the bottom and up the sides of the bowl.
    5. Repeat, making a 2nd batch of coated popcorn, continuing up the sides of the bowl.
    6. You want the sides of the popcorn bowl to be about 1 ½ inches thick.
    7. Pack it in tightly, filling in any big holes.
    8. Pop the bowl in the freezer for 15 minutes.
    9. Remove from the freezer, carefully turn the bowl upside down, and pull the popcorn bowl out.

    10. It should pop out easily so be careful to hold onto the popcorn so it doesn't just fall out.

    11. Roll out your dark modeling chocolate or black fondant and cut out a jack-o-lantern face using metal cutters or a knife. Attach them to the pumpkin popcorn bowl using some melted chocolate or candy melts.
    12. To make your Halloween Popcorn, break up the Halloween Oreo Cookies into small pieces.
    13. Pour 1.8 ounces of popped popcorn into a large mixing bowl.
    14. Pour on 16 ounces melted and tempered white chocolate or melted white candy melts and add the Oreos, Reese's Pieces, Toffee Bits, and Caramel Bits.
    15. Toss together to coat.
    16. Spread ½ of the popcorn onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
    17. Immediately press some pumpkin shaped pretzels on top.
    18. Spread the remaining popcorn onto another baking sheet and add more pretzels.
    19. Drizzle orange and dark chocolate over top of the popcorn.
    20. Refrigerate or freeze for 10-15 minutes.
    21. Remove and allow it to come to room temperature.
    22. Break apart into bite size pieces.
    23. Fill the Pumpkin Popcorn Bowl with the Halloween Popcorn.
    24. I stored my popcorn bowl in a 5 gallon popcorn tin. I set the bowl on the inside of the lid, and put the base over top. This will keep my white chocolate popcorn fresh for over a month.
    25. If you don't have an airtight container that is large enough for the popcorn bowl to fit inside, then wrap it in plastic wrap and keep it on your counter for a few days.
    26. It will last about a week, but will be freshest if eaten within three days.

*This makes a really big bowl and I needed 1 ½ batches of the Halloween popcorn to fill the bowl. The amount of popcorn and white chocolate you'll need to make your bowl will depend on the size of the plastic bowl you use as a mold.**For instructions on melting chocolate and candy melts see my Chocolate Making Tips Page.

Immediately pour the popcorn into the plastic bowl (mold) and start pressing it into the bottom and up the sides of the bowl. Repeat, making a 2nd batch of coated popcorn, continuing up the sides of the bowl. As you add popcorn, you might need to allow it to begin to harden slightly before it will stick easily to the bowl, not your hands.

For my very large bowl, I needed to make a third batch of candy-coated popcorn. You want the sides of the popcorn bowl to be about 1 ½ inches thick. Pack it in tightly, filling in any big holes.

Pop the bowl in the freezer for 15 minutes.
