Decorate Reese's Cups using candy clay (modeling chocolate) to create stunning Beauty and the Beast Emoji Cupcakes. Kids and adults will fall in love with these sweet fairytale treats.

Beauty and the Beast Cupcakes made with Reese's Cups.

Are you excited to see the new version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast?

    I can't wait.

I fell in love with the animated movie and it's still one of my all time favorite Disney movies. There's something so sweet about the love story between Belle and the Beast and the fun loving characters that inhabit the castle. I adored Chip and can't help but laugh at Lumiere and Cogsworth.

When I set out to create some Beauty and the Beast inspired treats, I realized just how much detail is in the Beast's face. I needed to simplify the design and found an emoji image of Belle and the Beast on Zazzle.com that was a great starting point.

Beast Cupcakes inspired by Beauty and the Beast Emoji are made with Reese's Cups decorated with candy clay (modeling chocolate).

The emoji design was definitely simplified from the actual animated drawing and was the perfect place to start.

You know how much I love using Reese's Cups to create cupcakes, so I decorated the milk chocolate peanut butter cup using candy clay (modeling chocolate).

I did my best to keep the design as simple as possible, but Beast needs a beard, a mouth with fangs, a furry nose, eyes with eyebrows, horns and ears. It's a lot of decoration to add to a Reese's Cup, but I made it work. I placed Beast's chocolate head on a cupcake topped with a big swirl of blue frosting then added two big candy clay paws to finish off the design.

Belle Cupcakes inspired by Disney's Beauty and the Beast Emoji are made using candy clay and Reese's Cups.

Luckily Belle is much easier to replicate in treat form.

I used a Reese's Cup but ended up covering most of it with the candy clay decorations. She has a pale peach colored face, dark brown hair, yellow hair ribbons, red lips, and black eyes. I added eyelashes using a black food coloring marker.

Her dress is made of golden yellow frosting and I added two pale peach candy clay arms to finish her design.

Insert a chocolate Pocky stick into a cupcake to support a Reese's Cup decorated like Beast.

If you plan to make these cupcakes, you need a really sturdy frosting that will hold a big swirl. I used Wilton's Ready to Use Decorator Icing because I like the flavor, it's easy to color, and it holds a nice peak.

If your frosting is not firm enough to hold the Reese's cup heads in place, you can insert a chocolate Pocky stick (a thin cookie dipped in chocolate) into the frosting and through the cupcake. Or, you can create a pick on the actual Reese's Cup. Check out my Leprechaun Cupcake tutorial for instructions.

Break the Pocky stick to fit the cupcake so that it sticks up just enough to support the Reese's Cup head then pipe some frosting around it to hide it.

You can find Pocky Sticks in the grocery store in the Japanese/Asian Food section.

If you've never made candy clay before, be sure to read my Chocolate Making Tips page for instructions. You might also like to grab a copy of my new book, Candy Clay Creations. It's the ultimate guide to working with candy clay and is available in ebook and print formats.

To make the candy clay decorations, I like to use small metal cutters, plunger cutters, and a knife. You can simply cut the shapes using a knife or shape them using your hands if you don't have all the tools.

I've added links to the tools I used to make these Beauty and the Beast Emoji Cupcakes that are available on Amazon (commission earned for sales). You can also find many of these items at your local craft store.

    Ingredients
    Beast:
    • 1 (1.5 ounce) Reese's Cup
    • 1-2 ounces candy clay divided and colored tan brown, white, and black
    • melted milk chocolate or candy melts
    • white food coloring
    • ¼-1/3 cup stiff blue frosting
    • 1 cupcake
    • optional Pocky Chocolate Stick
    Belle:
    • 1 (1.5 ounce) Reese's Cup
    • 1-2 ounces candy clay divided and colored peach dark brown, yellow, and red
    • melted milk chocolate or candy melts
    • white food coloring
    • ¼-1/3 cup golden yellow frosting
    • 1 cupcake
    • optional Pocky Stick
    Instructions
    Beast:
    1. Unwrap Reese's Cup and set aside.
    2. Roll out tan candy clay and cut into a ¾ moon shape beard.
    3. Use a knife to make the beard look furry.
    4. Cut two small eyebrows and also make look furry.
    5. Roll out some brown candy clay and cut two tear drop shaped ears.
    6. Press a toothpick from the bottom edge upward forming a crease in each ear.
    7. Cut the bottom edge of the ear into a curve that will match up with the outer edge of the Reese's Cup.
    8. Pinch off a small piece of brown candy clay and roll it into a log for Beast's mouth.
    9. Roll out a tiny piece of white candy clay and cut it using a small triangle or teardrop shaped cutter. Cut that piece in half and cut each half so that you end up with two short fangs.
    10. Roll a small piece of the tan candy clay into Beast's nose.
    11. Roll some black candy candy clay into a thin log and attach it to the base of the nose using a small dab of water then cut off any excess.
    12. Roll out black candy clay and cut two black eyes using a small round plunger cutter or pinch off small pieces and roll them into balls then flatten them into small circles.
    13. Pinch off pieces of black candy clay and roll into a horn then twist it and curve it.
    14. Pinch off pieces of brown candy clay and roll and shape into Beast's paws.
    15. Use melted chocolate to attach the pieces to the Reese's Cup.
    16. Set aside for a few minutes to dry.
    17. Then use a knife to make the nose look furry.
    18. Create white highlights on each eye using small dabs of white food coloring.
    19. Set aside and allow the food coloring to dry for at least 30 minutes.
    20. Pipe a big swirl of blue frosting onto a cupcake.
    21. Optional: break a Pocky stick so that it is just long enough to be inserted into the cupcake, through the frosting, so that it supports the Reese's Cup.
    22. Pipe blue frosting around the top edge of the Pocky stick.
    23. Set Beast's head on the top part of the blue frosting swirl in front of the Pocky Stick.
    24. Insert two paws into the frosting.
    Belle:
    1. Roll out dark brown candy clay and cut a circle that is the same size as the Reese's Cup.
    2. Use a small heart cutter to cut a heart out of ⅔ of the brown candy clay circle creating Belle's hairline.
    3. Cut a small ¾ moon shape for Belle's bun.
    4. Attach the bun to the hair using a small dab of water. Let it set aside to dry.
    5. Cut a curved tear drop shape out of dark brown candy clay then pinch it so that you have a long pony tail with a flat piece that can be attached behind the Reese's Cup.
    6. Roll out some peach colored candy clay and cut a circle to match the size of the hair.
    7. Brush a tiny amount of water on the top edge of the peach circle then press the hair piece on top.
    8. Roll out a thin log of yellow candy clay and drape it over the seam between Belle's hair and bun, cutting off the excess yellow candy.
    9. Then wrap a log around the ponytail and cut off excess.
    10. Create two small eyes out of black candy clay and lips using a tiny piece of red candy clay.
    11. Attach the eyes and lips to Belle's face using water.
    12. Add a highlight to each eye by dabbing on some white food coloring.
    13. Set aside to allow the food coloring to dry.
    14. Use melted chocolate to attach Belle's face to a Reese's Cup.
    15. Attach the ponytail to the back of the Reese's Cup so that it hangs down past the bottom edge of her hairline.
    16. Shape two arms out of peach candy clay.
    17. Pipe a golden yellow swirl of frosting on a cupcake.
    18. Attach the Reese's cup and Belle's arms to the frosted cupcake using a chocolate Pocky stick for support if needed.

    NOTES:

    • If you don't have all the tools I used, you can simply pinch off pieces of candy clay and shape them as needed or roll out the candy clay and cut with a knife.
    • Keep your candy clay wrapped in plastic wrap, in a zip top bag, or an airtight container when you are not working with it so it does not dry out.
    • Candy clay tastes like chocolate so I highly recommend you use it, but if you decide to use fondant instead of candy clay you will need to either add tylose powder to the fondant when making the horns or allow the fondant to dry overnight.

I'm not sure we'll get there on opening night, but it's a must see! I actually met Emma Watson in the elevator at JFK on our way to Africa this year. She was lovely.
