No Easter would be complete without a chocolate bunny so have fun crafting some of these cute Reese's Cup Easter Bunny Cupcakes to share with friends and family.
Each chocolate cupcake is topped with a big swirl of chocolate frosting and an adorable chocolate peanut butter cup bunny.
Get hoppin', Easter is just around the corner! It's time to make some of these adorable Reese's Cup Easter Bunny Cupcakes.
Won't your family and friends just love these cute little Easter desserts? Each chocolate cupcake is topped with a swirl of chocolate frosting and a Reese's Cup that has been decorated to look like a sweet little bunny.
Each peanut butter cup bunny has a bright pink Sixlet nose, two candy eyes, and two Tootsie Roll ears. When you set the bunny's head on the chocolate frosted cupcake you can add two small Whoppers and a candy carrot so your bunny looks like he's holding a carrot with his little paws.
These will be perfect to serve for dessert after Easter dinner, but would also make a wonderful treat to share with co-workers or classmates.
I am hosting an Easter dinner at my house this year. It's going to be a super casual affair. We are having ham sandwiches, veggies, fruit, and Deviled Egg Bunny Feet. Some of my family will be going to a big brunch earlier in the day, so I decided to keep my meal light.
Of course, no one can come to my house for dinner and not have dessert, so these cupcakes will make an appearance along with my Cheesecake Peeps and Brownie Bunny Butts with Reese's Egg Paws.
Are you having a big family gathering for Easter? If so, are you serving something special this year? I'd love to hear about your plans in the comments below.
Ingredients
1 Reese's Cup
1 pink Sixlets
2 candy eyes
black food coloring marker
1 Tootsie Roll Midgee
ยผ Vanilla Tootsie Roll Midgee
2 Whoppers
1 gummy carrot
1 chocolate frosted cupcake
melted light cocoa confectionery coating (candy melts)*
*For detailed melting instructions, see my Chocolate Making Tips page.
Instructions
- Unwrap Reese's Cups and Tootsie Rolls.
- I used Reese's Snack Sized Peanut Butter Cups which are .55 ounces each.
Decorate the Reese's Cup Easter Bunnies
- Use melted confectionery coating to attach two candy eyes and one pink Sixlet on each Reese's Cup.
- Draw whiskers and a mouth on each Reese's Cup using a food coloring marker.
If you are having trouble getting your food coloring marker to work well on the chocolate, be sure to read my Edible Ink Marker Tips page for tips and tricks to make them work.
Make Tootsie Roll Easter Bunny Ears
- Flatten the Tootsie Roll Midgees.
- If needed, soften them in the microwave on the defrost setting for 5-8 seconds.
- Cut each chocolate Tootsie Roll into two bunny ears.
- Cut each Vanilla Tootsie Roll into the smaller inside fluff of the bunny ears.
- Brush the backside of each Vanilla Tootsie Roll with some water and press them onto a chocolate ear. This isn't necessary if your Tootsie Rolls are really fresh. They will stick together without any water.
- If the Tootsie Rolls are soft you will need to brush the backside of each Tootsie Roll ear with chocolate candy melts. Then let the chocolate air dry.
Update: You may need to add a layer of chocolate to the ears.
When I made these Tootsie Roll bunny ears originally I used Tootsie Rolls that were really firm. They probably had been in my candy drawer for a while and had gotten a bit hard. The good thing about them being hard was that they stood straight up.
When I remade these cupcakes this year to create the new video tutorial, I bought a brand new package of the fudgy candies and my bunny ears were too soft. They flopped over. So in the video, you will notice that I brush chocolate candy melts onto the backside of the ears. This will help to keep your ears standing straight up.
If you prefer you can make your chocolate bunny ears using homemade, 2-ingredient, modeling chocolate.
Assemble the Reese's Cup Easter Bunnies
- Cut the bottom tips off the Tootsie Roll ears so that they sit flat on top of the Reese's Cup.
- Use the melted candy coating to attach the ears to the Reese's Cups.
- I set some Tootsie Roll scraps under the ears to hold them in place until the candy coating dried.
When I used the softer Tootsie Rolls, I found it easier to extend the bottom of the ear and to dab chocolate candy melts over that end then set the Reese's Cup over top. You'll see this step in the video.
Chocolate Cupcakes
You'll need chocolate cupcakes topped with a swirl of thick chocolate frosting.
You can:
- make homemade chocolate cupcakes topped with chocolate ganache frosting,
- make cake mix cupcakes
- or buy store-bought cupcakes.
The frosting needs to be thick enough to hold up the Reese's Cup Easter Bunny. It's best to frost the cupcake and then allow it to sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before adding the Reese's Cup bunny head. This will allow the frosting to firm up a bit.
Assemble the Easter Bunny Cupcakes
- Set one Reese's Cup bunny head on each of the frosted cupcakes.
- If need be, add a bit more frosting behind the Reese's Cup in order to hold the bunny's head in place.
- If your frosting is too soft to hold up the Reese's Cup Bunny you can:
- insert a chocolate Pocci Cookie Stick into the center of your cupcakes, through the swirl of chocolate frosting (see the video for my Chocolate Teddy Bear Cupcakesย to see how that works)
- or you can create chocolate picks on the Reese's Cup (see my Carrot Thief Cupcake tutorial for instructions)
- Add two Whoppers and one gummy carrot so each bunny looks like it has paws holding the carrot.
I found these gummy carrots online from Amazon.
Alternative candy carrots:
If you can't find gummy carrots, you can make your own carrots using orange Almond M&M's. Cut green gumdrops into the green tops and attach them to the orange candies.
You could also make the carrots out of modeling chocolate or fondant like I did for some bunny butt cupcakes.
You could also just have them holding a jelly bean or other Easter candy.
Aren't they cute?
I'm sure kids and adults are gonna love 'em!

Aren't they the cutest/sweetest little things? You could even just make the heads to hand out as little "Happy Easter" treats or if you need to make a little something for a lot of people. They're adorable and so easy to make. You can buy Sixlets in little individual sleeves so no big expense for the noses or anything else on the ingredient list.
Glad you mentioned the food writer tips. Just got some Americolor markers & will go right now & store them upside down. Yes - lucky me - there were Reese's cups in my refrigerator. Didn't know what I would do with them (other than eat them "straight up") until just now.
There is no such thing as a simple dinner at your house. Your guests must be totally wowed every time they come over. Go ahead - show us your more challenging bunnies. We'll help you decide which we like best - but - be forewarned - it will be hard to match the bunnies in this post!
