These cute Chocolate Snack Cake Bats are so much fun to make and eat. Kids of all ages will go batty for these chocolate vanilla cake roll Halloween treats.
It is so easy to dress up a store-bought snack cake for Halloween.
I love making cakes from scratch, but sometimes I just want a quick and easy dessert to serve for a holiday, so I use snack cakes instead.
I've shared tutorials to make Chocolate Werewolf Snack Cakes, Black Cat Snack Cakes, Snack Cake Penguins, and more (see the complete list at the bottom of this post).
Today I'm going to show you how to make these cute Snack Cake Bats.
As with most of my other snack cake crafts, these chocolate bats are pretty simple to make using chocolate-coated cake rolls, dark cocoa candy melts, candy eyes, and a black food coloring marker.
So let's get started.
Chocolate Snack Cake Bats
Ingredients
- 1 chocolate cake roll per bat (Little Debbie Swiss Rolls, Hostess Ho Ho's, or Drakes Yodels)
- black food coloring marker
- melted dark compound chocolate (made with palm kernel oil (known as Candy Melts, Ghirardelli Melting Wafers, Merckens Coating, almond bark, or confectionery coating) - You used about 1 ounce per bat.
- 2 candy eyes per bat
NOTE: If you don't have experience melting confectionery coating/candy melts, see my instructions in my Chocolate Making Tips tutorial.
Supplies
- Squeezit Mold painter (squeeze bottle), disposable pastry bag or zip-top bag
- parchment paper-lined baking sheet

- Draw a mouth and fangs on each snack cake using a black food coloring marker.
- Fill your squeeze bottle, disposable pastry bag, or zip-top bag with melted confectionery coating.
- Squeeze a small drop on the back of each candy eye and attach them to the snack cake just above the mouth.
- Slide the drawing of your wings under your parchment paper.
- Pipe the melted confectionery coating/candy melts over the drawing creating your wings.
- Pipe a strip of candy coating in the middle of the wings then set the snack cake on top of that.
- Refrigerate until the wings are set, about 3-5 minutes.
- Remove and carefully peel off the parchment paper.
Storage
Store in an airtight container until ready to serve.
