Have fun making these cute Black Cat Cakes for Halloween. These chocolate cakes are easy enough for kids to decorate using store-bought cookies and candy.
If you are looking for a super easy Halloween dessert that kids will love, this is it! These cat-shaped cakes are made using chocolate snack cakes like Hostess Ding Dongs, Drake's Ring Dings, or Chocolate Moon Pies.
The cats are decorated with OREO Cookie ears, pink taffy noses, and bright green taffy eyes.
They'd be fun to serve with Chocolate Cauldrons, Fudge Witch Hats, and Candy-Filled Witch Cookies at a witch-themed Halloween party.
So, let's decorate some cat cakes.
Ingredients
round chocolate-covered snack cakes - Hostess Ding Dongs, Drakes Cakes Ring Dings, or Moon Pies
Oreo Cookies or other chocolate wafer cookies
pink and green Air Heads Taffy
Nutella, frosting, corn syrup, or honey - Use this to attach the decorations to the snack cakes.
Supplies
sturdy paper straws or lollipop sticks
small round metal cutter from a set of fondant cutters
black food coloring marker
knife
Instructions
Insert a straw into each snack cake.
Cut two circles out of the green AirHead for each cat. Use the food maker to draw on pupils.
Cut one triangle out of the pink AirHead for each nose.
Cut two smaller triangles out of pink for the ears.
Cut diamonds out of the chocolate cookies. If using Oreo Cookies remove the filing before cutting. If you have trouble cutting them, you can heat them in the microwave for 5 seconds to soften them.
Attach the small pink triangles to one side of the chocolate cookie diamonds (ears) using Nutella, frosting, corn syrup, or honey.
Attach the ears to the snack cakes by poking the lower part of the cookie diamond into the snack cake. Remove it, add some of the sticky stuff in the hole, and replace the ear.
Use the Nutella to attach the nose and eyes to the chocolate cakes.
Draw on whiskers and a mouth using food coloring markers.
Storage
Store in an airtight container. Individually wrap them in clear cellophane bags to give as treats or tie ribbons on the straws and arrange them in a basket to serve as dessert.

I added a note in the post regarding cutting the cookies. I hope you had success once you microwaved them.
