Have fun with your kids and make these Black Bear Snack Cakes! This super simple treat is so adorable and so yummy, but it may be way too cute to eat!
My exchange student has been with us for a week now and it has been a whirlwind of activity. We have watched polar bears diving for food at the zoo, fed kangaroos and giraffes at an animal sanctuary, played games for hours at Dave and Busters, and even took a ride on a camel. The rest of our time has been spent riding bikes, walking the dogs, swimming, shopping, watching movies, playing board games, cooking and just getting to know each other. She is a wonderful girl and I am excited about having her with us this year. With all of that to keep us busy, I’m glad I got some blog posts written and out of the way a few weeks ago. I wish I had some back to school ideas to share with you, but we are too busy enjoying the end of summer to even think about stuff like that. She did get her school schedule and starts in a week and a half, but until that time we are going to just have fun.
Black Bear Snack Cakes
round chocolate snack cakes (Hostess Ding Dongs, Moon Pies or something similar)
mini Oreo Cookies
pink candy coated sunflower seeds (or any small pink candy)
black food coloring marker
printed paper straws or lollipop sticks
Insert a paper straw or lollipop stick into each snack cake. Separate the mini Oreo Cookies, leaving the filling on one side. Press two of the filling topped cookies, into the snack cake opposite the straw for the bear’s ears. Scrape off any filling residue that is on the other cookies. Use frosting to adhere one cookie about 1/4″ from the edge of the cake near the straw for the bear’s snout. Attach one pink sunflower seed for the nose at the top of that Oreo cookie. If you’d like, you can use the food coloring marker to make the pupils larger on the candy eyes. I think they look cuter that way. Attach them above the nose.
Use the edible ink marker to add eye lashes if you’d like some girl teddy bears.
Draw mouths onto the mini Oreo Cookies. That’s it, they are done. Aren’t they sweet?
Store in an airtight container. Do not refrigerate. If you would like to give these as party favors, wrap them in clear cellophane bags and tie with a ribbon.
