Colorful sprinkle coated Mini Cupcakes in Candy Filled Shot Glasses are the perfect size treats to serve at a kid's birthday party. Each of these small plastic cups is filled with tiny candies and topped with a brightly colored mini cupcake.
When you host parties for kids do you find half eaten cupcakes or slices of cake on the plates when you are cleaning up?
Kids are often having so much fun at a party that they aren't interested in eating much during the event, or they have eaten so much other food, like pizza or hot dogs, that their bellies just can't take any more by the time they get to dessert.
These little desserts offer the perfect solution.
These tiny little treats offer party guests just a few bites, which can be great for so many occasions.
When I host a big party, I like to have a nice variety of sweets on my dessert table, so I try to keep each of the treats small. These colorful cups would look great alongside cookies, mini cheesecakes, and cups of chocolate mousse.
Not only do they look super cute, but they are incredibly easy to make.
All you have to do is fill plastic 1-ounce shot glasses with candy then top them with mini cupcakes. You don't even have to make the cupcakes, but they are pretty easy to make too, so let's do it and let's make them fun.
To make these colorful cupcakes, start by mixing up a white cake mix, or your favorite white cake recipe, then color portions of the batter using a rainbow of food coloring.
You can also use the pre-colored cake mixes, which is what I did. I used small pouches of cake mix, divided them in half to make smaller batches of batter, then made my cupcakes. I got about 18 mini cupcakes of each color for a total of 108 minis. That's a lot of cupcakes!
If you don't want your cupcake minis to be colorful, use any cake mix or cake recipe you like.
Once the cupcake minis are baked and cooled, pipe on a swirl of white frosting and sprinkle on some rainbow nonpareils.
Then fill the plastic shot glasses with about a tablespoon of tiny candies, like Rainbow Nerds or Mini M&M's, then set a cupcake on top.
That's it.
Quick and easy, right?
Now each party guest gets a bite-sized cupcake and a spoonful of candy to snack on.
The portion couldn't be more perfect, especially for young kids.
If you prefer a larger dessert, you can make regular sized cupcakes and set them in candy filled wine glasses like I did when I made these patriotic Red, White, and Blue Cupcakes in Candy Filled Wine Glasses.
These treats are great, but the portion size is quite large. Each cup holds about ¼ cup of candy and a cupcake.
You could make both small and large candy filled cups topped with cupcakes and simply wrap the large ones up for the kids to take home as party favors.

- 1 white cake mix and water, egg whites, and oil called for on package
- red yellow, blue, green, orange, purple food coloring
- 3 ¾ cup white frosting
- rainbow nonpareils sprinkles
- 3 ¾ cups tiny candies

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Line 60 cavities in mini cupcake pans with paper cups.

Make cake mix according to package instructions.

Equally divide batter into 6 bowls.

Color batter using food coloring.

Pipe or spoon batter into mini cupcake pans.

Bake for 10-12 minutes until the cakes spring back when touched.

Remove and allow to cool completely.

Pipe or spread white frosting on top of each cupcake.

Sprinkle on a bit of rainbow nonpareils.

Spoon about a tablespoon of candy into a plastic 1 ounce shot glass.

Set a mini cupcake on top.

Repeat, creating a total of 60 mini cupcakes in candy filled shot glasses.
NOTES:
- If you don't need 60 of these cupcakes for your party, use some of the batter to make a single layer cake or larger cupcakes to use for another party.
- If you do make all 60 mini cupcakes, you can freeze some of them for another party.
- If you just don't have time to bake, buy mini cupcakes from a bakery or grocery store. Who will know?
