Make Rice Krispies Treat Birthday Balloons in a snap

August 17, 2011 This post may contain affiliate links.

Looking for a simple treat to give to someone on their special day? These Rice Krispies Treat Birthday Balloons are such a simple recipe but they are so delicious! They will make anyone who receives them as happy as ever.

For my last birthday party post I decided to put together a super simple, quick and easy recipe (well, I wouldn’t even call it a recipe, it’s just a decorating idea, really.) I am very aware of the fact that many of my recipes here at Hungry Happenings take time and patience to re-create and I try to offer alternatives for those occasions when you just don’t have either.

When you look at the picture above, would you imagine that these festive little balloons take minutes to make using three store bought products? They may even be items you already have on hand. If not,  go to the store, buy some Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats, Fruit Roll-Ups, and Twizzlers Pull & Peel. Unwrap a treat, shape it into a circle, wrap it in a roll-up, and tie on a Twizzler.  Done!

Rice Krispies Treat Birthday Balloons

Ingredients:

Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats
Fruit Roll-Ups
Twizzlers Pull & Peel

Special Equipment Needed:

2 1/4″ round cookie cutter, optional

Instructions:

If you are looking to use homemade Rice Krispie Treats,  head on over to my new website, HowToMakeRiceKrispies.com. You can also check out how we taste tested 20 versions of the Rice Krispie Treat recipe to come up with the absolute BEST Rice Krispie Treat Recipe. Use this recipe to add some extra taste!

Just follow the recipe in the link provided, cut them into the shapes needed, and use them in the steps below:

Unwrap Rice Krispies Treats.  Smash all four edges of the treat so that you have curved edges.  If you want a perfectly round balloon, press the treat into a 2 1/4″ round cookie cutter. Otherwise just smash and shape the treat into a round or oval shape. Unwrap a Fruit Roll-Up and lay one on top of a round treat with a corner pointing upwards.

Turn this treat over, so that the Fruit Roll-Up is on the work surface and the treat is facing up. Fold over the top point of the fruit roll then begin folding in the fruit roll all around the treat, leaving the bottom open.  Turn the treat face up and pinch the bottom part of the fruit roll gently in the center.

Peel the Twizzlers Pull & Peels apart into individual strings.  Tie a Pull & Peel string onto each of the Rice Krispie Treat Birthday Balloons.

There are many ways to serve your Rice Krispies Treat Birthday Balloons. You can simply place them on a serving platter. Or you can cover a large cutting board or piece of cardboard with fun paper.  I used a roll of fadeless bulletin board paper with a blue sky and clouds.  I purchased it at Office Depot for around $8 and have used it to serve several of my themed recipes, but if you don’t want an entire roll of paper, just use scrapbook paper or blue poster board. Whatever paper you choose, be sure to cover it with a layer of plastic wrap or cellophane so your treats won’t stick.  If you want to give these out as individual treats, just wrap the balloons in cellophane bags. You can even insert a lollipop stick into each balloon before wrapping them. I think, no, I know, it took you more time to read this tutorial than it will take you to make these fun little treats.

The best part is, the kids will love how they look and how they taste. SWEET!

This is just too adorable! I think I would fall weak to eating half the candy before I make them… but i'm willing to take that chance!

My sister in law made these with my kids while i was at work. The kids loved to make them and had a great time. And also, they were pretty good to eat with the fruit roll up on it!

A Rice Crispy Treat is rice cereal mixed with marshmallows and butter. We can buy them pre-made here in America, but they are so simple to make. Just melt 3 tablespoons butter (60 ml) and 10 ounces (285 grams) marshmallows either on the stove or in the microwave. Then mix in 6 cups (140 grams) crisp rice cereal (Rice Krispies Cereal.) Pour it into a lined baking sheet and allow it to cool. Remove the treats from the pan and cut. If you are making the balloons, just cut them into circles.
