These patriotic puff pastry shells are a festive alternative to the plain buns we usually use when eating pulled pork and the meal is a lot less messy too. My family really enjoyed this unique twist on a BBQ sandwich.Over the weekend, we gathered together to celebrate Father's Day, and being their host is a food blogger who can't blog about a holiday after the fact, they enjoyed a 4th of July feast a few weeks early.

When my family gathers for special events in the summer, we tend to stay indoors. None of us are fans of sweltering heat and high humidity. We prefer air conditioning. That doesn't mean we want to miss out on the foods of summer, though.

Just because we dined in the kitchen, didn't mean we couldn't enjoy all our favorite summertime dishes like corn on the cob, baked beans, fresh fruit salad, and BBQ pulled beef and pork.

Being I had no intentions of slaving away over a blazing hot grill on an 88 degree day, I chose to serve Farm Rich Smokehouse BBQ Pulled Beef Brisket and Pulled Pork as the main course for my party.

My family is passionate about their bar-b-que, so I knew I had to make sure that what I was serving was top notch. I was happy to find that Farm Rich's Smokehouse products are slow cooked for hours, hand pulled and made with simple clean ingredients and a unique blend of sauces.

Enjoying a 4th of July BBQ dinner.

Of course, when it comes to BBQ, the taste is the most important factor, and we were so pleased, that we were fighting over who got the last of the Beef Brisket. The meat was tender and sweet, just the way we like it.My father didn't even mind that his Father's Day meal was decked out for the 4th of July. He enjoyed every bite.

The best part of the party was that I didn't spend hours in the kitchen. I got to relax and enjoy my company. The Smokehouse BBQ meats come frozen but take less than 10 minutes to heat up. I made really simple side dishes to go along with it and the puff pastry shells came together really quickly too.

Clean up was also a breeze because dinner was served on holiday themed paper plates. There wasn't much more than corn cob skewers in the sink after dinner.

Not bad for a special occasion meal.

A fun 4th of July BBQ dinner that's quick and easy to make. Tutorial at HungryHappenings.com

    Patriotic Puff Pastry Shells
filled with BBQ Pulled Pork or Beef Brisket

    Ingredients: (makes 4)

    2 sheets frozen puff pastry
    1 large egg
    1 teaspoon water
Farm Rich Smokehouse BBQ Pulled Beef Brisket or Pork
(you'll need about 6 ounces per shell)

    Instructions:

How to make a star shaped puff pastry shell for 4th of July.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions.

Unroll one sheet of puff pastry and cut it into 4 squares. Use a star shaped cookie cutter to cut stars out of two of the squares.

Dock the solid squares using a fork (poke holes all over the dough.)

Whisk together the egg and water.

Brush the egg wash around the edge of the solid square of dough. Set one of the cut out squares of dough on top. Brush egg was over the cut out square and the star.

Set the puff pastry cut-outs on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and place in the freezer for 15 minutes.

Bake for 12 minutes, then remove the stars and continue to bake the shells for another 4-6 minutes until deep golden brown.

Heat the Farm Rich Smokehouse BBQ per package instructions.

You can find these new Farm Rich items in the freezer section of your grocery store.

Patriotic Puff Pastry Filled with Smokehouse Pulled Pork or Beef

Fill the puff pastry shells with the BBQ and serve hot.

I made the puff pastry shells a few hours before the party, but I wanted them warm so I filled them with the hot BBQ, covered them with tin foil, and put them in a 350 degree oven for 15 minutes.

We are purists in our family, and like our BBQ plain, but you can add all sorts of fillings to the shells, like cheese, slaw, and even pickles.

If you try the Smokehouse BBQ, be sure to share your recipe ideas in the comments below.

I have been compensated to create this post and am happy to share my experiences with this new product.. My family loved the Pulled Beef Brisket and the Pulled Pork BBQ and will definitely be buying it again soon.
