    Chocolate Olaf Pretzel Craft

It was so fun seeing all the enthusiasm shown for my Chocolate Pretzel Snowman Craft yesterday and I'm super excited to share these Chocolate Olaf Pretzel Craft with you today. I hope you like them as much as the original.

As I made my original snowman pretzel craft I just couldn't stop thinking about how easy it would be to turn those chocolate dipped pretzels into Frozen's Olaf. And, happily it was easy, so easy that I didn't waste any time in making them and couldn't wait to share them with you.

Chocolate Olaf Pretzel Craft from HungryHappenings.com

I don't often make edible crafts using characters from movies or games. Actually in the four years I've been blogging, I've made two: Mickey Mouse Snack Cakes and Beaker Twinkies. That's it.

It's hard to believe I've made hundreds of edible crafts and so few have been of popular characters but I have always been extremely cautious of breaking trademark and copyright laws. At this point, after seeing thousands of bloggers make crafts using characters, and not hearing of one lawsuit, I figured I might as well jump on the bandwagon.

To make my Chocolate Olaf Pretzel Craft, I once again used Snyder's of Hanover Dipping Stick Pretzels. They are the perfect size for this edible craft.

    Chocolate Olaf Pretzel Craft

    Ingredients: (makes about 30)

2 ounces melted orange Candy Melts*
1 bag Snyder's of Hanover Pretzel Dipping Sticks
16 ounces melted and tempered pure white chocolate*
or melted white confectionery coating/Candy Melts
6 ounces melted and tempered pure semi-sweet chocolate*
or melted dark cocoa confectionery coating/Candy Melts
60 large candy eyes (½ inch size looks best)

*See my Chocolate Making Tips page for detailed instructions about working with chocolate and confectionery coating.

    Instructions:

Pour melted orange candy melts into a small zip top bag, and snip off one tip. Pipe small triangle shaped orange carrot noses onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Each nose should be about ¾ inch long.

Pop tray in freezer for about 2 minutes, until the candy noses are set.

Create groupings of 5 pretzels. You want to choose 5 that are close in size so that when you dip them and set them next to each other, you get nice rectangle shaped head for each Olaf.

Drop one pretzel at a time in the melted white chocolate. Use a dipping fork or a kitchen fork to remove the pretzel. Tap the fork on the side of the bowl a few times and allow the excess white chocolate to drip off the pretzel. Set the pretzel on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Dip another pretzel and set it next to the first one, and so on until you have 5 together.

Refrigerate if using pure white chocolate and freeze if using confectionery coating for about 3 minutes until the chocolate hardens. Don't chill for too long, or you will have cracking issues.

How to make White Chocolate Olaf Pretzel Craft from HungryHappenings.com

Attach two candy eyes and one orange carrot nose to each set of chocolate dipped pretzels.

Pour the semi sweet chocolate into squeeze bottle fitted with a small round tip (I used a pastry tip #3,) you can also use a pastry bag or even just a zip top bag. Pipe three sticks for on top of Olaf's head and set a pretzel grouping on top.

Pipe on a big smile and eyebrows. Then use a food safe paint brush to add Olaf's white teeth.

The chocolate will harden in the pastry tip as you work, so I advise using plastic tips that can be heated in the microwave. I love using Squeezit Bottles. They come with couplers and plastic pastry tips. I just clean out the tip using a toothpick and heat the entire bottle as needed.

Store your Olaf pretzels in an airtight container for up to a month.

Now the tricky thing about this particular edible craft is their fragile nature. Those sticks on top of Olaf's head break easily. So, I suggest keeping them on something flat. I gave them to my neighbor's kids and put them on a flat board and covered them in plastic wrap. If you package them in cellophane bags, I suggest you cut cardboard backings to put down in each bag.

My comment just went bye-bye off the screen so ???

Glad you have decided to jump on the character bandwagon. Why not - everyone else is. These are not only cute but so easy to make, thanks for your great idea & instructions. Parties all over will be "sporting" them and the one who makes them better bring some for the big kids also.

Yep, it's been a long time coming, but I finally got with the program:)

These treats definitely appeal to kids and adults. I myself have snacked on quite a lot of chocolate dipped pretzels in the past few days. So much for that January diet. LOL! Who can diet in the midst of all these fun sweets?
