Attach chewy Mike and Ike candies to Almond M&M's to create these festive Candy Christmas Lights. They are so quick and easy to make that you can have a whole string of them made in less time than it takes to untangle real lights.
Those of you who are regular readers here at Hungry Happenings know I often make food crafts that are a bit complicated and require many ingredients and lots of steps, but today, I have a Christmas present for you all, a two-ingredient project that takes minutes to create. These M&M and Mike and Ike Candy Christmas Lights seriously could not be any easier to make.
They are fun to put into a candy dish, look great on top of a cake, and make a perfect addition to a rice krispie treat Christmas tree.
You'll be pleasantly surprised at how nice the flavor combo of the chocolate candy-coated M&M tastes with the lime Mike and Ike candy. Mike and Ike's come in a variety of flavors but I chose to use the green one in order to make my Candy Christmas Lights look like the traditional mini bulbs. If you aren't a fan of lime, then you can use any of the other fruit flavors.
Ingredients
almond M&M's
Mike & Ike candies - I only used the green candies so my candy Christmas lights looked like real Christmas lights.
Supplies
a sharp knife
optional: a hand-held lighter
Instructions
- Cut the green Mike & Ike candies in half. I used a lighter to heat up my knife so I got really clean cuts in the Mike and Ikes. Just carefully hold the knife blade over the flame for a few seconds to heat it up then cut through the candies. If making these with kids, skip the flame and be safe!
- Immediately press the sticky cut side of the Mike and Ike candy onto the wider end of an Almond M&M.
- Repeat to create as many M&M and Mike and Ike Christmas Lights as you want.
You are done! Easy, right?
How to use these candy Christmas lights?
You can put your M&M's and Mike & Ike Christmas Lights in a candy dish for the holidays or you can get creative and use strands of lights on cakes or cupcakes.
You can even just pipe some green frosting in a squiggly line on a serving platter and set the candy light bulbs along the line.
Variations
You can create Candy Christmas ornaments using M&M's. Each of these candy ornaments has a tiny dehydrated marshmallow attached.

They are all adorable I don't have time to make them now, but I will be making some later on.

Have fun making them when you have time!

How do you put them on the string ?
Beth
The string was just draw on paper. You could pipe a string of frosting on a cake, cookie, brownie, etc. and attach the candy light bulbs. You could also use licorice laces and attach the candy using royal icing.
Faye
Adorable idea! I am thinking of trying the red shoe string licorice for the string.
Beth
Thanks, Faye. They would look cute on a cake with the shoe string licorice:) Have fun.
