Attach chewy Mike and Ike candies to Almond M&M's to create these festive Candy Christmas Lights. They are so quick and easy to make that you can have a whole string of them made in less time than it takes to untangle real lights.
Those of you who are regular readers here at Hungry Happenings know I often make food crafts that are a bit complicated and require many ingredients and lots of steps, but today, I have a Christmas present for you all, a two-ingredient project that takes minutes to create. These M&M and Mike and Ike Candy Christmas Lights seriously could not be any easier to make.
They are fun to put into a candy dish, look great on top of a cake, and make a perfect addition to a rice krispie treat Christmas tree.
You'll be pleasantly surprised at how nice the flavor combo of the chocolate candy-coated M&M tastes with the lime Mike and Ike candy. Mike and Ike's come in a variety of flavors but I chose to use the green one in order to make my Candy Christmas Lights look like the traditional mini bulbs. If you aren't a fan of lime, then you can use any of the other fruit flavors.
Ingredients
almond M&M's
Mike & Ike candies - I only used the green candies so my candy Christmas lights looked like real Christmas lights.
Supplies
a sharp knife
optional: a hand-held lighter
Instructions
- Cut the green Mike & Ike candies in half. I used a lighter to heat up my knife so I got really clean cuts in the Mike and Ikes. Just carefully hold the knife blade over the flame for a few seconds to heat it up then cut through the candies. If making these with kids, skip the flame and be safe!
- Immediately press the sticky cut side of the Mike and Ike candy onto the wider end of an Almond M&M.
- Repeat to create as many M&M and Mike and Ike Christmas Lights as you want.
You are done! Easy, right?
How to use these candy Christmas lights?
You can put your M&M's and Mike & Ike Christmas Lights in a candy dish for the holidays or you can get creative and use strands of lights on cakes or cupcakes.
You can even just pipe some green frosting in a squiggly line on a serving platter and set the candy light bulbs along the line.
Variations
You can create Candy Christmas ornaments using M&M's. Each of these candy ornaments has a tiny dehydrated marshmallow attached.

THESE ARE BEAUTIFUL. I WONDER HOW THEY WOULD LOOK ON STRINGS OF SHOESTRING LICORICE. I WANT TO TRY THAT AND PUT ON A CAKE.
Celebration Maven
We are going to try stringing them like candy necklaces. Will let you know how it goes. 🙂

These might be the cutest holiday treats I've seen in awhile!
Lisa Bletz
I was just wondering what for string you used for the Mike and Ike and M&M's light ornaments. I have all the candy, was just wondering about the string. These are the cutest things ever !! Thank you for sharing.
Beth Jackson Klosterboer
Hi Lisa, I just piped a very thin line of green frosting for my strand and set the light bulbs on the frosting. You can also use green string licorice, Wilton makes it. You'd have to attach the candies to it, maybe with some candy melts.

SO cool & the lighter is genius!! Thanks for linking to Craftastic Monday at Sew Can Do:)
Mindy Sartorelli
These are amazing!!! Did you thread them together, or did you just strategically place them on a drawn green strand? I must try these with my boys, thank you for sharing 🙂
Beth Jackson Klosterboer
Thanks, Mindy. I just placed them on a line of frosting that I drew onto paper to take the picture. I thought about stringing them together, but in the end felt it was too much work to push a toothpick through each Mike and Ike then have to thread string or a licorice lace through. If you do it and have success, I'd love to see a picture.
Mindy Sartorelli
They look perfect the way you displayed them... I love that you used a string of frosting! Thank you again 🙂

These are so cute! What do they taste like though? Interesting flavor combo.
Beth Jackson Klosterboer
Thanks Heather. Oddly enough they taste pretty good. I'm not a big fan of lime, but somehow the lime with the almonds, chocolate, and candy coating is a pretty good combination. Everyone that has tried them has said the same thing.

do they stay stuck together just sitting in the bowl like that? i wonder if the stickyness dries up and they fall apart.
Beth Jackson Klosterboer
I wrapped up my candy dish filled with them and plan to use them for our holiday party. They've been sitting for over a week and are still stuck together!

This is the perfect recipe for kids. I will have to attempt to make these with my kids. I know a lot of the ingredients will be gone before the project is completed.
