You’ll score big if you serve this 3-D Game Day Football Cake on game day. Be careful and warn your guests that this isn’t an actual football so they don’t try to go and throw around the pig skin.
Every time I get an assignment from General Mills for a sculpted cake I worry that my inexperience as a cake decorator will finally get the better of me. Being I don’t know exactly the right things to do to make a structurally sound three dimensional cake I oftentimes find myself creating new techniques and I’m always shocked when they work. This is one of those times.
I can’t even believe I made this cake. It actually looks like a football.
When my sister, whose son is a football player, saw this cake she was in disbelief. She said to me, “I didn’t realize you even knew what an actual football look like.” It’s true, I’ve not spent much time with footballs.
The cake turned out so great that I shared it with the football players on my nephew’s team. They loved it too.
What’s not to love? The cake is chocolate inside and out, from the foil wrapped chocolate footballs hiding inside to the rich and decadent modeling chocolate that covers the entire devil’s food cake.
