Some of us get very stressed out during this time of year and I wanted to make something that will brighten everybody's day. Whip up some Silly Snowman Rice Krispies Treats and turn that frown upside down.

Rice Krispies Treat Snowmen |
Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but these snowmen are so delightful.Their googly eyes, buck teeth and cheeky little grins just make me feel all warm inside, which is good, because it's 2 degrees Fahrenheit here today. BRRR.
The forecast called for 6-12 inches of snow over the weekend, so on Friday, still sniffling and coughing, I braved the cold to go grocery shopping. My husband drove and just dropped me at the door, so I wouldn't have to be exposed to the frigid temperatures for too long. If we had only needed a few things, I would have sent him on his own, but I haven't been out of bed, let alone out of the house, in over a week. The refrigerator was beginning to look like that of a poor college student.
Sadly the shelves in the grocery store were almost as barren. We were lucky to snag the last few gallons of orange juice and the very last bunch of romain lettuce, but happily we got everything else on our list. We got home and settled in and waited for the storm.
It never came.
We got an inch of snow.
It's not even enough to make a snowman. So, I decided to make my own, out of Rice Krispies Treats, Candy Melts, and modeling chocolate.
I can't tell you how delighted I was to be out of bed and back in my kitchen. My enthusiasm turned what I had planned to be simple snowmen into these goofy looking winter treats, and I love 'em.
Rice Krispies Treats Snowmen
Before you begin, read my Chocolate Making Tips page for information about melting confectionery coating and making/coloring modeling chocolate.
Ingredients:
Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats bars
melted, white Candy Melts/confectionery coating
white modeling chocolate (recipe, here)
black, orange, and blue food coloring
black food coloring marker
You'll need about 1 ½ ounces of white candy coating for each cereal treat bar, but have more on hand, because you need to have enough in the cup to dip and fully cover your crispy treats.
Supplies:
craft sticks
tall glass
parchment paper lined baking sheet
non-stick mat
fondant rolling pin
#2,3,6 and 8 round pastry tips
tiny tear drop, round, and oval cutters (½ - ¾ inch)

Follow the recipe provided in the link, cut the treats into rectangles, and use them in the steps below:
Unwrap Rice Krispies Treats and insert a stick in one end. Pour melted confectionery coating into a tall glass. Dip each Rice Krispies Treat into the candy coating. Remove and allow excess coating to drip back into the glass. Set on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Freeze for 5-8 minutes.
Color some white modeling chocolate using orange, black and blue coloring. Using a fondant roller, roll out a small amount of each color on a non-stick baking mat.
Cut the following for each snowman:
- Black - 1 round, 1 oval, 1 (# 8 tip) round, 1 (# 6 tip) round
- White -Â 1 round, 1 oval, 1 (# 2 tip) round, 1 (# 3 tip) round
- Blue - 1 (½ inch wide by 3 ½ inch long) strip, 2 small round balls
- Orange - 1 tear drop shaped carrot
Pieces used to make the snowman's eyes:black and white ovals - flatten black oval - attach white oval - attach white dots to pupils
black and white circles - flatten black circle - add white circle - cut off a sliverattach the oval to the circle and add the pupils (use water to attach pieces together)
Use white chocolate to attach the eyes and nose to the candy coated Rice Krispies Treats. Use a black food coloring marker to draw on a silly smile and buck teeth. Wrap the blue strip around the top of the treat, and attach two blue modeling chocolate balls to make the earmuffs.
These will keep, stored in an airtight container for up to a month.

Sorry to hear you've been sick as well. December was a terrible month around here. I got sick when I got home from California, and was ill for about a week. My husband got sick and was in bed for 2 weeks. He's just now feeling better. Then I got sick again and was in bed for a solid week and am just now doing better. Being sick stinks. I get so antsy. I hate being in bed. I get bored after one day. When I finally got out of bed, all I wanted to do was create.
I hope you are feeling well now. I look forward to seeing your new creations.

Well now we know ... Rice Krispie Treats are like medicine! So happy to hear that you are up and about 🙂 One inch of snow is pretty to look at and no shoveling required! Your snowmen have so much personality!
beth
They are the best kind of medicine I know!
It is pretty here today. I certainly will never complain about having 1 inch instead of 12 inches of snow. Once, years ago, I lived in Kentucky, and the weatherman predicted 1 inch of snow. Instead we woke up to find 16 inches in our yard. The city was shutdown for 5 days. So, I'm happy with one!

It is nice to finally be up and moving again. I can deal with the coughing now that I at least have some energy. I spent days thinking of blog post ideas and can't wait to make them. I just couldn't be in bed one more day.
