Cool off this summer with some fun ice cream cone animals.
These Mini Chocolate Ice Cream Cone Monkeys are wild.

Grab the kids and head into the kitchen this summer to play with your ice cream.

Who needs the ice cream man when you can create such cool treats on your own?

Ice cream monkeys are simple to make, can be prepared ahead and frozen, and will make any summer day more exciting.

3 cute monkey ice cream cones in a row on a yellow background

I've been busy creating an entire series of ice cream cone animals that I'll share with you throughout the summer, so be sure to stop back to check them out. Here are two I made previously.

To make these cute cones, you can use store-bought or homemade ice cream. If you are looking for a dairy-free alternative, you can even make your own Cocoa Banana Ice Cream to top your mini cake cones.

    Mini Ice Cream Cone Monkeys

    Ingredients per monkey:

    • 1 mini ice cream cone
    • 1 scoop chocolate ice cream
    • 2 candy eyes
    • 3 peanut butter Candy Melt wafers (or mini Vanilla Wafer cookies)
    • black food coloring marker

    Instructions:

ingredients for monkey ice cream cones including chocolate ice cream, mini cake cones, candy eyes, and peanut butter candy melts

    • Fill a mini ice cream cone with some chocolate ice cream.
    • Top the cone with a nice rounded scoop of ice cream.
    • Pop in the freezer for 5-10 minutes.

draw nostrils and a smile onto peanut butter candy melts to make a monkey's face

    • Use a black food coloring marker to draw two nostrils and one smile onto a Peanut Butter Candy Melt wafer (or mini vanilla wafer cookies) to create the monkey’s snout.
    • If you don’t want to use a food coloring marker, you can pipe on some chocolate frosting or some chocolate hazelnut spread instead.

decorate your chocolate ice cream cone monkeys with peanut butter candy melts and candy eyes

    • Remove the ice cream cone from the freezer.
    • Hold the two plain peanut butter candy melts in opposite hands.
    • Press the candy melts simultaneously into the sides of the ice cream cone, creating the monkey’s ears.
    • Press the peanut butter candy melt snout onto the lower half of the front of the ice cream cone.
    • Press two candy eyes onto the ice cream just above the snout.
    • Serve immediately or freeze them until needed.
    • If you are making the Ice Cream Cone Monkeys for a party, you can make them ahead of time, store them in an airtight container in the freezer for several days.
