Create hollow chocolate cauldrons using candy molds then fill them with ghoulish green pudding and magical mix-ins for Halloween.

chocolate cauldrons filled with green pudding and magical mix-ins including candy eyes, bone sprinkles, and green sugar pearls.

I made these chocolate cauldrons for a group of kids who came over this week to help me decorate for our Halloween party.

In less than 45 minutes, I conjured up four of these hollow chocolate cauldrons and turned them into a delicious dessert.

I filled each cauldron with a layer of chocolate OREO pudding and a layer of green-colored vanilla pudding. To make the green pudding look like a witch's brew, I added candy eyes, bone sprinkles, and green sugar pearls.

chocolate cauldrons filled with green pudding, green sugar pearls, candy bones and eyes.

To keep this Halloween dessert quick and easy, I used Snack Pack Pudding.

If I were serving these to adults at a Halloween dinner party, I might fill them with a layer of chocolate mousse topped with a layer of green-colored cheesecake mousse but the kids thought these desserts looked and tasted magical.

You could even fill the cauldrons with candy. What kid wouldn't love that?

    Instructions

how to make a 3-D chocolate cauldron

Paint chocolate into a cauldron mold.

Spoon some chocolate into each cauldron cavity in the candy mold.

Spread the chocolate into a thin layer all around the mold, making sure it's thick enough that you can't see through it.

Pop the molds in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes if using semi-sweet chocolate or into the freezer for 10-15 minutes if using confectionery coating or candy melts.

Make a chocolate cauldron in a candy mold

    Unmold the chocolate.

Remove the molds from the freezer and pop the chocolate cauldrons out of the molds.

heating the edge of a chocolate cauldron on a cookie sheet so that it melts slightly.

Melt the edge of a chocolate cauldron.

Set a baking sheet over a burner on your stove and turn on the heat for about 20-60 seconds.

I use a gas flame, and it takes about 20 seconds. Electric will take longer.

putting together the two sides of Chocolate Witch's Cauldrons

    Seal the two halves together.

Set one-half of a chocolate cauldron on the hot pan, allowing the edge to melt just a little.

Press that half onto another half and hold the cauldron for a minute until the chocolate begins to stick.

Allow the cauldrons to sit for a few minutes to harden.

heating a round metal cookie cutter over a glass flame and then using it to cut a hole in the top of a Chocolate Witch's Cauldron

Create an opening at the top of the cauldron.

Hold a round metal cookie cutter using metal tongs over the flame of a gas stove or candle for 5-10 seconds to get it hot.

Immediately set it on top of one of the chocolate cauldrons, allowing it to melt a hole in the chocolate.

You may need to press down a bit to get it to cut through all the way, just be gentle, you don't want to crack your cauldrons.

Remove the cutter, wash it, and repeat creating openings in all four chocolate cauldrons.

Snack Pack Pudding and Halloween Oreos

    Witches Brew Ingredients

Now for the fun part, making your witch's brew.

You'll need to get your pudding cups, OREO Cookies, green food coloring, and sprinkles ready.

Oreos and Snack Pack Pudding Filled Chocolate Cauldrons

You'll need one full chocolate pudding cup per cauldron.

To add a little crunch to the chocolate pudding, break up one and a half Oreo Cookies and stir the pieces in, then spoon it into the cauldron.

coloring vanilla pudding with green food coloring, spooning it into chocolate cauldrons, and adding candy eyes and bones, and sprinkles.

Fill the cauldrons with magical mix-ins.

Stir a few drops of green food coloring into the vanilla pudding and spoon some on top of the chocolate pudding.

I spooned some into a small zip-top bag and squeezed it into dribbles on my cauldrons then sprinkled on some green nonpareils and added a few candy eyes and bone-shaped sprinkles.

    Storage

You can make these chocolate cauldrons up to two months in advance. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature.

        Hi Cheryl,

The cauldron candy mold were available on Amazon but it looks like they are currently sold out. It does look like there's a mold for sale on Ebay here - https://www.ebay.com/p/1458886362

These are absolutely adorable. I bet they were a big hit with the kiddos. Btw. . . I can't believe that you whipped them up in only 45 minutes. They truly look like you spent hours making them.
