Cover a butterfly-shaped cookie with flavored cream cheese and a colorful assortment of fresh fruit to create this fun Butterfly Fruit Pizza. This sweet summer dessert tastes as amazing as it looks.

Butterfly fruit pizza topped with pineapple, grapes, strawberries, peaches, banana, and kiwi and decorated with chocolate chip eyes.

A large cookie makes a wonderful canvas for frosted art or a bright arrangement of fruit.

Over the years I've had so much fun making and decorating fruit pizzas to share with you including:

    • Strawberry Kiwi Fruit Pizza Watermelon - my most popular fruit pizza that looks like watermelon slices
    • Fruit Pizza Beach Ball - the perfect dessert for a beach or pool party
    • Fruit Pizza Flowers - daisy cookies look so colorful topped with raspberries and blueberries
    • Fruit Pizza Strawberries - giant strawberry-shaped cookies topped with strawberries and a drizzle of chocolate
    • Playing Card Fruit Pizza - makes a fun gameday dessert
    • Uncle Sam Hat Fruit Pizza - red, white, and blue fruit pizza perfect for any patriotic party
    • Swirly Pop Fruit Pizza - fun lollipop cookies topped with colorful fruit

Butterflies come in so many beautiful colors and have countless types of patterns on their wings and I knew that I could make a beautiful fruit pizza butterfly.

I started by finding a simple butterfly coloring page (here) as a guide then cut out sugar cookie dough using the template, baked it, topped it with flavored cream cheese and fruit.

Make a butterfly fruit pizza by topping a butterfly shaped cookie with flavored cream cheese and fruit.

Using strawberry-flavored cream cheese was easy but I have to admit that I prefer the no-bake cheesecake fluff topping that I used to make my Strawberry Kiwi Fruit Pizza Watermelon.

    Butterfly Fruit Pizza (serves 8-12)

    Sugar Cookie Crust Ingredients:

    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 ½ teaspoons almond extract
    • 2 ½ cups flour, plus more to dust cutting board
    • ½ teaspoon salt

    Toppings:

    • 6 ounces strawberry cream cheese*
    • diced fruit (pineapple, green grapes, strawberries, peaches, kiwi, or any other fruits you like)
    • 2 banana slices
    • black food gel

*If you prefer a sweeter flavored topping stir ¼ cup sugar into the fruit-flavored cream cheese.

Or mix 4 ounces cream cheese, ½ cup powdered sugar, ½ cup whipped topping, and 1 teaspoon vanilla together for a sweet cream cheese fluff topping.

    Supplies:

    • parchment paper
    • cutting board
    • rolling pin
    • knife or pizza wheel
    • butterfly coloring page - use this one or any you like

    Instructions:

    • In a mixing bowl cream together butter and sugar.
    • Add the egg and mix until well combined.
    • Add the vanilla and almond extract and mix until combined.
    • Mix flour and salt together and add it to the mixing bowl.
    • Mix just until combined.

use butterfly coloring pages as a template to cut out a butterfly cookie crust for your fruit pizza

    • Increase the size of your coloring page so that it is 8" tall and about 16" wide.
    • You'll need to print it out on two pieces of paper, then cut it out and past the two pieces together.
    • Place a piece of parchment paper on top of your cutting board.
    • Roll your dough out to ⅜" thickness.
    • Lay the butterfly template over the dough and cut out around it.

bake the butterfly shaped cookie crust to make your fruit pizza

    • Remove excess dough and save for another use.
    • Refrigerate butterfly cookie for at least 30 minutes.
    • Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven for 16-22 minutes until golden brown around the edges and baked all the way through in the center.
    • Cool completely.

spread strawberry cream cheese over top of the butterfly cookie crust before topping it with fruit

    • Spread your choice of cheesecake or cream cheese filling over the cookie.

top the butterfly cookie with green grape slices for the body, peaches for the bottom of the wings, strawberries around the edge and pineapple to fill out the wings before adding banana slice eyes and kiwi slice spots

    • Top with fruit to create a beautiful butterfly wing pattern.
    • I used green grapes to create it's the body, bananas for its eyes, pineapple, strawberries, peaches, for the wings.

Use black gel to add a smile to the butterfly fruit pizza.

    • I added two kiwi slices to create large spots on my butterfly wings, then I piped some black food gel to make pupils and a smile.
    • Serve or refrigerate up to 8 hours for the best flavor.
    • This pizza can be kept for two days in the refrigerator but tastes best the day it's made.

Beth this is REALLY cute. Leave it to you to come up with this fun idea. I too make a killer strawberry pizza but I've never put it into a shape but its always oblong or round. It is many of my grandchildrens' (I have 34) favorite. I too make a crust etc. etc. But I do LOVE your idea for the butterfly and I know the Grands would all love it too. I'm going to show it to two of the 12 yr old grand girls and I bet you they will want to make it this weekend. Just too too cute!! Thanks for sharing your adorable idea.

Hi Nann, Wow, 34 grandchildren! You must have some really crazy holiday celebrations. Oh, when I was 12, I would have really loved making this butterfly. I actually made a butterfly cake for a contest at my junior high school. It lost to a carrot cake, but I had a great time making it anyway. I'd love to know what recipe you use for your strawberry pizza crust. I've been trying some different crusts and haven't come up with just the perfect one yet and am sure I'll try more in the future.

How do people eat it? Do they carve a piece away? I'm worrying that the cookie will crumble.

        Hi Patricia,

I was able to slice it with a knife. I think the cream cheese and fruit help to soften the cookie enough that it doesn't crumble when cut.
