    Daisy Wedding Cake Cheese Ball

Serve this elegant and savory Daisy Wedding Cake Cheese Ball at a bridal shower or wedding reception. This amazing appetizer is sure to be the centerpiece of your food table.

    daisy wedding cake cheese ball.

A few years ago, I created my very first wedding cake cheese ball, pictured above, and had an incredibly enthusiastic response to the recipe.

This bridal shower appetizer was listed on Glamour Magazine's website as one of the Most Genius Wedding Ideas of the Week and it was also featured on the cover of Woman's World Magazine.

I've been meaning to revisit this edible craft idea for a while now and am excited to share a new idea with you today.

wedding cake cheese balls decorated with a cream cheese border, herbs and flowers, and cheese daisies.

There are so many ways to turn an ordinary cheese ball into a spectacular wedding cake for a wedding reception or shower.

One of my favorite designs features white and yellow daisies.

I cut daisies out of mozzarella cheese and attached them to the cake to create a visually stunning cheese ball.

In the process of making these cakes, I also tried out a new few cheese ball recipes, which I've shared in the tutorial.

The recipe I used for the daisy cake has some apricot/peach preserves in it which gives it a nice peach color. The daisies pop against the soft color of the cheese ball.

It wasn't my favorite of the three recipes, but I do like how it looks. If you are a big fan of Camembert cheese, you'll probably love it. I prefer the Roasted Garlic Parmesan Cheese Ball, myself.

    Instructions

how to decorate Wedding Cake Cheese Ball

    Make the cheese daisies.

Cut about 50 daisies out of slices of white cheese using a cookie cutter or a plunger cutter. Brush yellow food coloring over two slices of cheese.

Allow the food coloring to dry. Use a small round cutter or plunger cutter to create yellow stamens for each daisy.

Attach the yellow stamens to the daisies using a small dab of cream cheese.

how to assemble Wedding Cake Cheese Ball

Attach the flowers to the cake.

Attach the daisies to the cake using a dab of cream cheese. I filled a pastry bag with cream cheese and attached a small round tip, then piped the cream cheese onto the back side of each daisy, then pressed it onto the cake.

You can also just use a knife or spatula to do this. You could have the daisies cascading down the cake or just circle each cake layer with the daisies like I did.

wedding shower appetizer cheese ball cake with daisies.

Lovely, isn't it? Serve your cheese ball with crackers and see the surprised looks on your shower guests' faces when they realize it's an appetizer, not a dessert.

    Make it ahead.

You can make this cake, several days ahead of time, just keep it covered and in the refrigerator until your party guests arrive.

    Ingredients
    • 1 wedding cake cheese ball (see two recipe options below)
    • 7-9 slices white cheese, ex: Mozzarella, Havarti, Provolone
    • yellow food coloring
    • small round cutter or plunger cutter
    White Cheddar Cheese Ball
    • 16 ounces Philadelphia cream cheese
    • 8 ounces aged white cheddar shredded (2 cups)
    • 4 ounces Monterey Jack Cheese shredded (1 cup)
    • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    Camembert Cheese Ball
    • 16 ounces cream cheese
    • 8 ounces Camembert Cheese, rind removed
    • 4 ounces Swiss Cheese, shredded (1 cup)
    • 4 ounces aged Asiago Cheese, shredded (1 cup)
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • ¼ cup white wine
    • ¼ cup apricot/peach preserves
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    Instructions
    1. Combine all ingredients for your chosen cheese ball in a mixing bowl. Mix using a stand mixer, a hand mixer, a food processor, or a large spoon.

    2. Line 5-inch", 4-inch, 3-inch, and 2-inch round cookie cutters with plastic wrap and set on a baking sheet.

    3. Spoon the cheese ball mixture into each of the round cookie cutters and flatten it out into an even layer.

    4. Fold the plastic wrap over the top of the cheese and smooth out the wrinkles using your fingers.

    5. Chill the cheese balls for at least 2 hours, and up to several days.
    6. Remove the cheese balls from the cookie cutter and peel off the plastic wrap.
    7. Set the largest cheese ball on a serving platter or small cake stand.

    8. Run a metal spatula under hot water then dry it off. Use it to smooth out any wrinkles in your cheese ball cake layers.

    9. Stack the remaining layers onto the first and smooth them out too.

    10. Cut about 50 daisies out of slices of white cheese using a cookie cutter or a plunger cutter. Brush yellow food coloring over two slices of cheese.
    11. Allow the food coloring to dry. Use a small round cutter or plunger cutter to create yellow stamens for each daisy.
    12. Attach the yellow stamens to the daisies using a small dab of cream cheese.
    13. Then attach the daisies to the cake using a dab of cream cheese. I filled a pastry bag with cream cheese and attached a small round tip, then piped the cream cheese onto the back side of each daisy, then pressed them onto the cake.
    Recipe Notes

Store your cheese ball in the refrigerator until your party. Place it on the table at least 30 minutes prior to eating to give it time to soften slightly so it's easier to scoop out.

This is a BRILLIANT idea, I am SO glad I found this. This is impressive enough to be used when catering an event. I don't know who actually came up with this idea but if you did, then this is genius. What makes it REALLY nice is that it can be prepared in advance which is SO nice when entertaining or preparing for a function.

It of course will depend on how much other food you have, but I've served these at parties with 20 or more guests and had a small amount of the cheese ball left over.
