Make homemade strawberry hot cocoa mix using just four ingredients including freeze-dried strawberries and white chocolate, then mix it into a mug of hot milk to create the most amazing strawberry hot chocolate. It's a perfect wintertime treat.

homemade strawberry hot cocoa mix, milk, strawberry hot chocolate in Valentine's Day mugs, and white chocolate dipped strawberries

A few months ago, I made some brain-shaped hot chocolate bombs for Halloween and filled them with homemade strawberry hot cocoa mix. When the white chocolate bombs were melted in a mug of hot milk, they made the most amazing strawberry hot chocolate.

The strawberry-flavored hot cocoa mix that I used to fill the hot chocolate bombs tasted great when melted with the white chocolate shell (the brain), but on its own was lacking in flavor.

I knew I need to add an equal amount of white chocolate that was in each chocolate bomb's shell to the hot cocoa mix, so I grated white chocolate and mixed it with the crushed freeze-dried strawberries, powdered sugar, and powdered milk. It worked perfectly!

When mixed with hot milk, it made hot chocolate that had a wonderful strawberries & cream flavor.

    Ingredients
    Strawberry Hot Cocoa Mix
    • 2 ounces freeze-dried strawberries
    • ¼ cup powdered sugar
    • ¼ cup powdered milk
    • 12 ounces white chocolate, or pink candy melts for a bright pink color
Single Serving of Strawberry Hot Chocolate
    • 8 ounces milk
    • 3-4 tablespoons of strawberry hot cocoa mix
    Instructions
    Strawberry Hot Cocoa Mix
    1. Crush freeze-dried strawberries into fine crumbs using a food processor or by smashing them in a large zip-top bag using a rolling pin or meat mallet.
    2. Set a fine-mesh sieve over a large bowl.
    3. Press the crushed strawberries through the sieve discarding any larger pieces.
    4. Then, sift the powdered sugar and powdered milk through the sieve into the bowl.
    5. Finely chop the pink candy melts or white chocolate using a food processor or a knife.
    6. Stir the candy melts or white chocolate into the strawberry hot cocoa mix until well combined.
Single Serving of Strawberry Hot Chocolate
    1. Bring milk to a boil.
    2. Whisk in 3-4 tablespoons of the strawberry hot cocoa mix.
    3. Pour into a coffee mug and enjoy plain, topped with whipped cream or marshmallows.
    Recipe Notes

If you want your strawberry hot chocolate to be vibrantly pink (as pictured), use pink candy melts to make your hot cocoa mix. If you use white chocolate to make your hot cocoa mix, your hot chocolate will be very pale pink.

If using a white chocolate candy bar, you can grate it using a cheese grater.

The calories listed are for 1 serving of the strawberry cocoa mix.

Store in a jar for up to 3 months until ready to serve.
