Dress up your marshmallow cereal treats for Halloween. These Mummy Rice Krispie Treats are fun to make with the M&M eyes and white modeling chocolate bandages.

We created a Halloween Movie Theater for our Halloween party this year and I made lots of fun movie-themed treats to serve for dessert including these mummy pops, a Frankenstein Cookie Cake, and a no-bake cheesecake decorated with a chocolate werewolf on top.

I like to get as many desserts made ahead of time as possible, and I could create these Rice Krispie Treat Mummies up to two weeks before our party.

pan of homemade rice krispie treats

    Ingredients

Rice Krispies Treats - I used a store-bought Kellogg's Rice Krispies Sheet to keep things simple, but you can use the award-winning Rice Krispie Treat recipe that I've shared over on my How To Make Cereal Treats site. It makes the best marshmallow rice crispy treats you will ever make!

blue or green M & M's - You'll use these candies to make the mummy's eyes.
black food coloring marker or black food coloring and a paintbrush
white candy melts - You can use Wilton Candy Melts, white almond bark, Ghirardelli White Melting Wafers, or Merkens White Confectionery Coating.
white modeling chocolate - You'll use white candy melts and corn syrup to make this edible modeling clay. Click this link to get the White Modeling Chocolate Recipe.

    Tips

You will need to melt more candy melts than you will use to coat all of your Rice Krispie Treats in order to easily dip them into the chocolate. You can use the extra melted chocolate to make modeling chocolate or you can simply spread it on a parchment lined baking sheet and freeze it for 10 minutes to harden it. Then you can use it later for another project.

I also suggest making two batches of the white modeling chocolate to assure you have enough for this project. The amount you use will depend on how thick you roll out your modeling chocolate to make the mummy bandages.

    Supplies

    wooden craft sticks
    2 ¾" - 3" round cookie or biscuit cutter
pizza cutter and ruler (or a multi-wheel pastry cutter)

    Instructions

cutting rice krispie treats using a round biscuit cutter

    Cut out circles.

Use a 3" round biscuit cutter to cut 10 circles from the Rice Krispies Treats Sheet.

Dip the tip of a wooden craft stick into melted white candy melts then insert it into a round rice krispie treat. Let the white chocolate harden for a few minutes.

cutting strips of white modeling chocolate using a multi-wheel pastry cutter.

Cut strips of white modeling chocolate.

Sprinkle some powdered sugar onto your work surface. Roll out modeling chocolate into a long strip.

Use a pizza cutter and ruler or a multi wheel pastry cutter to cut ¼" wide strips. You will need about 96  5-inch-long strips. Set them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Note: You can also use a pasta machine for this step. Roll out the chocolate and cut into fettuccine size noodles.

round rice krispie treat dipped in white chocolate with two blue M&M eyes.

Dip the treats in white chocolate.

Draw small pupils onto the M & M's with the food coloring marker.

Hold one lollipop by the stick and dip into melted white confectionery coating.

Hold the treat above bowl and let excess white chocolate drip off. You may also choose to just use an offset spatula to spread the chocolate on the treat.

Set it on a parchment lined baking sheet and immediately add two candy eyes.

laying candy bandages over the round rice krispie treat.

    Attach the candy bandages.

While the white chocolate is still wet, lay modeling chocolate bandages across the Rice Krispie treat in a criss-cross pattern.

Gently press the candy bandages into the coating to make sure they are secure. Don't push too hard or the white chocolate will ooze out between the strips of modeling chocolate.

cut off the bandages around the mummy rice krispie treat.

    Cut the bandages.

Cut off the modeling chocolate bandages around the edges of the mummy.

Place the mummy lollipop in the refrigerator for 5 minutes to allow the white chocolate to harden. Do not leave the treats in the refrigerator any longer or the modeling chocolate can get sticky.

    Repeat with remaining mummy pops.

    Storage

Store your lollipops at room temperatur for up to 2 weeks if you used store-bought Rice Krispie Treats. If you used homemade treats, they will keep for up to a week.

Wrap the mummy pops in clear cellophane bags and tie with a ribbon and give them out as Halloween party favors.

Or use them as prizes for your costume contest.

Can't wait to try this recipe. Thank you. How long can you store in refrigerator or in freezer?

I just store them in airtight containers. They will keep for several weeks. If you refrigerate or freeze them, wrap them well, and keep them wrapped while they defrost. That will keep condensation from forming on the modeling chocolate. Enjoy:)

That's one of the best looking recipes I've seen yet for Halloween. I always loved frozen rice crispy squares, but covered in chocolate is just too yummy.
