This is a really fun Halloween treat for kids. Rice krispie treats are cut into cat shapes then dipped in dark chocolate and covered in crushed cookies.  Then they are decorated to look like an adorable Halloween cat.

You can use tempered semi-sweet chocolate if you are skilled at tempering or use confectionery coating. If you'd like more information on melting chocolate, see my Chocolate Making Tips page.

Black Cat Rice Krispies Treat Pops (makes 10)

    You'll Need:

    1 Rice Krispies Treats Sheet
    10 wooden craft sticks
    2 lbs. melted dark chocolate
    14 ounces Oreo Cookie Crumbs
20 yellow and or green Dots Candies
    10 pink jelly beans

     Instructions:

If you are looking to use homemade Rice Krispie Treats,  head on over to my new website, HowToMakeRiceKrispies.com. You can also check out how we taste-tested 20 versions of the Rice Krispie Treat recipe to come up with the absolute BEST Rice Krispie Treat Recipe.

Just follow the recipe in the link provided, cut them into rectangles, and use them in the steps below:

Use a 3" round biscuit cutter to cut 10 circles from the Rice Krispies Treats Sheet. Use a knife to cut out 20 small triangles for the cat's ears. Insert a wooden craft stick into each of the treat circles.

Add the pointed ears to each cat pop. Press two triangular pieces of krispie treat onto the top of each treat circle creating the cat's ears.  Press them so they are secure and reshape if necessary.

    jelly beans

Cut the green and or yellow Dots candies to create eyes.  Cut off about ⅛" from the large side of each candy.  Create noses by cutting each pink jelly bean into a triangle.

Use a food (edible ink) marker to draw pupils onto the Dots candies. Start by drawing a straight line down the middle of a candy.  Expand the line into a long skinny oval.

Dip the cat-shaped krispie treats into melted chocolate. Hold the treat above bowl and let the excess drip off.

You may also choose to just use an offset spatula to spread the chocolate on the cat. Don't shake your pops or your sticks will come out.*

    cookie crumble rice krispies treat

Sprinkle cookie crumbs on a plate. Lay your pop on the crumbs.

Press two eyes and one nose onto the wet chocolate and immediately sprinkle cookie crumbs over the entire cat pop. Refrigerate for 10 minutes. Repeat.

    chocolate pops

Pour some melted chocolate into a disposable pastry bag or zip-top bag.  Cut off the tip creating a very small opening.  Pipe on whiskers and a mouth for each cat. If you prefer you can melt the white confectionery coating and use it for the whiskers.

*Cook's Note: If you are having trouble with the wooden sticks falling out as you are dipping your treats in chocolate, add a dab of chocolate around the stick where it meets the Rice Krispies treats and let it harden. Then proceed with dipping.
