Want an adorably cute, incredibly tasty, and amazingly simple treat to make for Halloween? Then you've got to make these Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat Cat Pops. They are totally adorable and delicious too!

Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat Cat Pops make cute treats for Halloween or an animal themed party.

Even if you are superstitious about black cats you won't be able to resist these Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat Cat Pops. They are just too darn cute!

Plus they are pretty simple to make and decorate using store-bought Rice Krispie Treats and once coated in dark chocolate they taste great.

The inspiration for these fun treats came when I spotted some wooden cats made out of 2 x 4s at a craft show. The lady had cut ears into the wood, painted it black, then added a cat face.

As my mind usually does, I immediately saw those cats as a chocolate treat.

Doesn't your mind work that way? LOL!

    Halloween Rice Krispie Treat Cats

I envisioned them created out of Rice Krispie Treats, so as soon as I got home I got busy crafting my design.

It seriously took me less than 5 minutes to create my first Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat Cat.

All you have to do is cut, dip, and decorate.

Rice Krispie Treat Chocolate Cat Lollipops

    Ingredients

    • Rice Krispie Treats - You can use store-bought treats or make homemade treats. Head on over to my new website, HowToMakeRiceKrispies.com, to see how we taste-tested 20 versions of the Rice Krispie Treat recipe to come up with the absolute BEST Rice Krispie Treat Recipe.
    • chocolate - I created my cat pops using pure, melted and tempered, dark chocolate. You can use confectionery coating (Candy Melts, almond bark, candy coating) if it is easier for you. The technique you'll use to dip the cereal treats will be exactly the same.

If you don't know the difference between pure chocolate and confectionery coating, no worries, I have a detailed Chocolate Making Tips page where I give you the low down and show you how to work with both types of candy.

    Supplies

    • knife
    • sturdy paper straws or lollipop sticks
    • parchment paper-lined baking sheet

You can find the supplies to make these treats on Amazon (commission earned for sales).

dipping a Rice Krispie Treat cat into melted chocolate then adding eyes, nose, and whiskers.

    Instructions

    • Cut a triangle out of one end of a Rice Krispie Treat to create two cat ears.
    • Dip the treats into melted and tempered pure dark chocolate (or use dark cocoa or black melted confectionery coating/Candy Melts).
    • Then add two candy eyes, a jumbo pink heart sprinkle nose. and some white jimmies for the whiskers.

    It's that easy!

I've created a video tutorial to show you just how simple it is to make and decorate these Chocolate Rice Krispie Treat Cat Pops. See the video in the recipe below.

    Tips

    • Pour your chocolate or Candy Melts into a tall glass that is slightly larger than your Rice Krispie Treats. That will make it easier to dip the tall treats.
    • You will need approximately 1 ounce of dark chocolate to coat each cereal treat, but you will need extra to be in the cup in order to evenly coat all of your treats. I made 8 treats and used 16 ounces of chocolate. I had about 8 ounces of leftover chocolate that I used to make some chocolate bark.
    • Dip and decorate one treat at a time. You need the chocolate to be wet in order for the decorations to stick.
    • If you are using pure dark chocolate, refrigerate your chocolate-dipped cereal treats until hardened. If you use confectionery coating/candy melts then pop them in the freezer instead. It should take between 5-10 minutes for the chocolate or candy coating to harden.
    • Use sturdy paper straws, lollipops sticks, or both. If your straws are too thin, put a lollipop stick inside the straw for stability.
    • I used ½ inch candy eyes which helps to make these cats extra cute! You have to either order these or find them at a cake decorating store.

So cute and it doesn't get any easier than this! All your cat creations over the years are wonderful so it's hard to decide which to do, but for now - this will be it - rice krispies.

I have several black cats and they seem friendlier than the others. Maybe they know they have to (unfortunately) work harder to get adopted. They're so loving so pleae don't overlook them when adopting..
