    Frosty Snowman Pretzels

Decorate white chocolate pretzels with mini chocolate chips and candy-coated sunflowers to make these cute winter-themed treats. These Frosty Snowman Pretzels are as much fun to make as they are to eat and kids and adults will love them.

    Snowman Pretzels.

Christmas is the perfect time to make these cute Frosty Snowman Pretzels. Each candy snowman is made of white chocolate pretzel rings and is decorated with mini chocolate chips, orange sunflower seeds, a black food coloring marker, and fruit rolls.

You can make your pretzel snowmen with two balls, a body, and a head, wrapped in a fruit roll scarf or you can simply make cute little snowman heads.

These sweet treats will look super cute in a candy dish, on a Christmas candy tray, or on top of a holiday cookie platter.

    Frosty Snowman Pretzels

    Ingredients

    • pretzel rings - These round pretzels are typically available at grocery stores during the holidays. I found Wege Pretzel Rings at Kroger. They are available online if you can't find them in your grocery store.
    • white confectionery coating (compound chocolate) like CandiQuik*, Candy Melts, or Melting Wafers
    • Fruit Roll-Ups (or use Candy Clay)
    • mini chocolate chips
    • orange candy-coated sunflower seeds or other small orange candy

*I tried CandiQuik for the first time for this project and really enjoyed the flavor and the ease of melting in the microwave tray that is included in the packaging.

I did have to reheat the coating several times while making my Frosty Snowmen Pretzels, and would highly recommend using my electric skillet method to keep the coating warm throughout the process.

     Supplies

    • pizza wheel or knife
    • baking sheet lined with parchment paper
    • spoon
    • optional - tweezers
    • black food coloring marker

You can find the items needed to make these Snowman Pretzels from Amazon (commission earned for sales at no extra cost to you).

    Instructions

adding a dot of white Candy Quik to a fruit roll scarf and attaching two round pretzels to it.
    • Melt white confectionery coating (Candiquik) according to the package instructions or read my Chocolate Making Tips for detailed melting information.
    • Cut ½ inch wide strips from Fruit Roll-Ups.
    • Lay a strip down on your parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
    • Add a dab of melted white candy coating (CandiQuik) to the center of the strip.
    • Press two pretzel rings on top.
spooning a small dot of white candy coating in between the two round pretzels.
    • To really secure the two pretzel rings, add another dab of candy coating in between and on top of the two pretzel rings.
filling the top round pretzel with white chocolate.
    • Spoon some of the white candy coating into the center of the top pretzel ring.

Note: Fill one or two of the pretzels at a time. You need to add the candy decorations while the candy coating is still wet. Once the coating hardens you won't be able to add the decorations as needed.

adding two mini chocolate chip eyes and an orange candy-coated sunflower nose to the white chocolate snowman pretzel.
    • While the candy coating is wet, add two mini chocolate chip eyes and one orange candy nose.
    • Note: I use tweezers to help me easily place these candies in the wet coating. Just make sure you use tweezers that are only used for food.
adding three mini chocolate chip buttons to the white chocolate pretzel snowmen.
    • Spoon some white candy coating into the bottom pretzel ring then add three mini chocolate chip buttons.
wrapping a red fruit roll scarf around a white chocolate pretzel snowman.
    • Fold both ends of the strip of Fruit Roll-Ups over to create a scarf.
    • Place your pretzel snowman in the freezer for 2-3 minutes, just until the white candy coating hardens.
drawing smiled onto a tray of pretzel snowmen using a black food coloring marker.

Create a nice assortment of Frosty Snowman Pretzels, reheating your candy coating as needed. Then allow the snowmen to warm up to room temperature and use a food coloring marker to add a mouth. Just draw on a curved line of dots under the nose.

If you want, you can add some pretzel stick arms by adding a dot of white candy coating to the end of a piece of pretzel stick and pressing that onto the edge of a pretzel ring.

I preferred them without arms, plus they were easier to make and move without the arms, but my exchange student loved the arms. It's your choice.

round pretzel snowmen heads decorated with orange candy-coated sunflower seed noses and mini chocolate chip eyes.

You may even opt to just create snowman heads using the pretzel rings and candy coating. These are so quick and easy and look great in a candy jar.

    Storage

These sweet little treats can be stored in an airtight container for a few weeks.

    Variations

You will have so much fun building these cute Frosty Snowman Pretzels with Candy Clay Scarves in the warmth of your kitchen this winter. Each salty and sweet treats is perfect for Christmas or any snowy day.

Snowman Pretzels with Candy Clay Scarves

I remade these snowmen for a video tutorial and chose to wrap a candy clay (modeling chocolate) scarf around the snowmen instead of using fruit rolls.

I also piped white candy melts into the pretzel rings instead of using a spoon. This method was a bit faster and neater.

Watch the video below to see how to make this version of the snowman pretzels. See the modeling chocolate recipe, here.

Enjoy watching the video tutorial and have fun making your snowmen pretzels.

Red Candy Clay Recipe (make this only if you choose to use candy clay scarves)
    • 12 ounces red candy melts
    • ¼ cup corn syrup
Fruit Roll Scarves (alternative to the candy clay scarves)
    • 6 fruit rolls
    White Chocolate Snowmen
    • 12 ounces white candy melts, melted
    • 96 pretzel rings
    • 240 mini chocolate chips
    • 48 orange candy coated sunflower seeds
    • black food coloring marker
    Instructions
    Red Candy Clay Scarves
    1. If you choose to decorate your pretzel snowmen with candy clay scarves, follow these instructions to make candy clay. Heat red candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl for two 30-second increments, stirring after each.

    2. Heat for another 30 seconds, then let the bowl rest in the microwave for 2-3 minutes.

    3. Remove and stir vigorously until melted.
    4. Cool, stirring often, to 91 degrees Fahrenheit.
    5. Stir in the corn syrup and blend just until combined.
    6. Pour out onto plastic wrap.
    7. Wrap and set aside to firm up for several hours.
    8. When ready, remove from plastic wrap and knead until the candy clay is pliable.
    9. Roll out red candy clay really thin.
    10. Cut ⅜ inch by 7-inch strips from the candy clay.

    11. Set one strip on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.

    Fruit Roll Scarves
    1. Alternatively, you can cut strips of fruit rolls to use as your snowman's scarves.

    White Chocolate Pretzel Snowmen
    1. Pour melted white candy melts into a disposable pastry bag or zip-top bag.

    2. Snip off the tip of the bag.
    3. Pipe a small mound of candy in the center of the red candy clay or fruit roll strip (scarf).

    4. Set two pretzel rings, touching, over the white candy melts.

    5. Pipe a small amount of white candy where the pretzels come together just to help "glue' them together.
    6. Pipe white candy into the center of both pretzel rings.
    7. Set two mini chocolate chips and one orange sunflower seed in the top pretzel forming the snowman's eyes and nose.
    8. Set three mini chocolate chips in the bottom pretzel forming 3 buttons.
    9. Add another small amount of white candy melts in between the two pretzels then overlap the two ends of the red candy clay strip forming the snowman's scarf.
    10. Freeze for 3-5 minutes just until the white candy melts harden.
    11. Remove and let sit at room temperature for 5 minutes.
    12. Use a black food coloring marker to create a smile formed by 5-7 dots.
    Recipe Notes

Store your snowmen pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

TIP: Be sure your white candy coating is not too hot otherwise your chocolate chips may melt when you insert them into the white chocolate.

The calories are approximate and were calculated for one pretzel snowman with a fruit roll scarf.

Ok so my current favorite snow memory. I loved Calvin and Hobbes as a kid. I showed them to my daughter and Christmas week she made the snowman swimming away from the sharks. Thanks for the great ideas. I am going to make the snowmen this week.

Hi Beth. Love the snowmen. Will definitely be trying them. I grew up in Brooklyn with lots of snow, but my family is from the Caribbean, so no one had any idea of how to help the 1st generation American kids make a snowman. Led to alot of interesting attempts 🙂

I loved making snowmen as a child with my siblings; it was always fun. I would absolutely love to win a "Celebration Crate". Thank you so much for this opportunity. Oh btw, I love your blog and all your creative ideas.

I love making snowmen. The past several years I have changed to making
snowcats though in honor of all my furbabies. I think snowmen are the
only consolation for living in a cold area. I wouldn't mind it if the snow/ice kept off the road.

These are so cute. Will try and make them with my kids. I live in Calif all my life, there's no snow here 🙁 Hopefully one of these days we will be able to take the kids to snow country so that they can build a real snowman of their own. Until then, we will make these 😀
