Have you seen all of the fun projects all over Pinterest using melting crayons? They are so popular right now that the folks at Tablespoon.com asked me to create a cake using the melting crayon technique.

After making my Rainbow Tie-Dye Surprise Cake, I fell in love with the long loaf style cake and thought it was the perfect canvas on which to create this colorful rainbow cake.

At first, I was going to melt colored frosting to drip down the sides of the cake but was inspired by Shelly at Cookies & Cups, who made a Melted Rainbow Cake using white chocolate ganache. I think ganache elevates the flavor of a cake, so I thought I’d give it a try.

Melting Rainbow Cake

It worked great.

The long cake really allowed all the bright colors to show up well.

You can find the Wilton cake pan along with candy coloring on Amazon.com (commission earned for sales)

These two really festive looking rainbow cakes are perfect for birthday parties.

The inside of the cake is loaded with rainbow chips so the cake is colorful inside and out. It’s not quite as exciting inside as the Tie-Dye Surprise Cake though. Someday, I’ll have to combine the two together to make a really colorful cake.

Stop by Tablespoon.com to see the step-by-step tutorial for creating this colorful cake,
but before you go be sure to check out these other fun rainbow desserts…

Rainbow Desserts make any celebration brighter. Serve cakes, cupcakes or even a semifreddo for a St. Patrick's Day, Easter, or Birthday party.

Hi Coleen, chocolate ganache is super easy to make using chocolate, in this cake white chocolate and heavy whipping cream. Sometimes butter or corn syrup are added. Go to tablespoon.com to see the full recipe and tutorial to make this cake. Here's the link –

You never cease to amaze me Beth – this case is FABULOUS! You definitely replicated the melted crayon look and I love that you did it with ganache instead of frosting 🙂
