10ouncesmilk chocolate,finely chopped or chips
8cupsKellogg's Cocoa Krispies Cereal
1batch of modeling chocolate
orange, black, purple, and green candy coloring
powdered sugar,to dust work surface
black food coloring marker
frosting or Nutella
Instructions
In a large pot, heat the butter, marshmallows and milk chocolate over low heat, stirring often until melted.
Or, put those ingredients in a large microwave-safe bowl and heat for 20-30 second increments until melted.
Do not overheat or you'll burn the chocolate.
Stir the Kellogg's Cocoa Krispies into the melted marshmallow mixture, coating it well.
Butter the inside of your bear shaped cookie cutter then set it on a piece of well-buttered tin foil.
Fill the cutter completely with the Cocoa Krispies treat mixture.
Press down on the cereal to compact it in the cutter.
Remove the cutter and you'll have your first bear.
Repeat until you've used all the cereal.
Color some modeling chocolate orange, black, green, purple, and light brown, being sure to leave a small amount white. See detailed directions here.
Dust work surface lightly with powdered sugar.
Use a rolling pin to roll out pieces of each color modeling chocolate to about 1/16th of an inch or so.
Use cutters to cut out the following shapes for each bears:
1 orange pumpkin, large enough to be used as a bear's costume
(I had to roll my pumpkin a bit more to make it large enough to fit my bear)
cut off the stem end of the pumpkin to create the neck opening of the costume
2 black jack-o-lantern eyes
1 black jack-o-lantern nose
1 black jack-o-lantern mouth
1 green leaf
1 brown stem (cut an oval, then cut off part of the oval, leaving a stem shaped piece)
1 orange pumpkin hat (cut an oval then cut off a smaller oval from the first leaving a crescent moon shape)
1 purple rectangle for the bag
1 black handle (cut a circle then cut a smaller circle from the center, cut that to make the handle)
1 light brown snout (cut a circle then shape it into an oval snout)
1 black nose (cut a small circle)
2 white eyes (use the end of a #18 pastry tip to cut out small circles)
2 black pupils (use the small end of a #7 pastry tip to cut out small circles)
Attach pieces of modeling chocolate together with a small amount of water.
Example: brush the backside of the jack-o-lantern features with water and press them onto the pumpkin.Use a black food coloring marker to write "Trick or Treat" on the purple rectangle.
Cut in between the bear's legs with a knife.
Use frosting or Nutella to attach the modeling chocolate pieces to the bears.
Wrap in clear cellophane bags and tie with a ribbon if using as gifts, otherwise just keep stored in an airtight container for up to a week, maybe more.
