    Shamrock Shaped Snack Crisps

    Looking for a savory appetizer to make for St. Patrick's Day? Try these Shamrock Shaped Snack Crisps, they'll impress your friends and are great to use on any dip!

    It is so wonderful to know that I have inspired so many of you to create fun food for holidays and special occasions.

    Today, I'm going to share a St. Patrick's Day project that was inspired by one of my young readers, Aidyn. She and her mom, Carla, shared pictures of Aidyn's rendition of my Mozzarella Cheese Filled Hearts along with a few other recreations, and I shared them all in my Readers' Gallery.

    Looking for a savory appetizer to make for St. Patrick's Day? Try these Shamrock Shaped Snack Crisps, they'll impress your friends and are great to use on any dip!

    As I looked at the picture of her mozzarella hearts, not only was I impressed with this 9-year-old girl's elegant plating, but I was inspired by her addition of parsley to her pastries.

    I knew in that instant that with a little more parsley, I could transform this idea into a St. Patrick's Day-themed appetizer.

    My original intention was to create cheese-filled shamrocks, but instead, I kept these snacks really simple by just sprinkling the pastries with lots of Parmesan cheese and parsley. They are crispy and light and have a wonderful cheese flavor.

    These green-speckled shamrock-shaped crisps would be great served with spinach and artichoke dip or hummus, but make a great snack just as they are and are so easy to make.

    Ingredients

    • 1 store-bought pie dough or puff pastry, thawed
    • egg white or milk
    • ⅓ -½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese*
    • 2-3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh Italian parsley
    • optional - serve with spinach/artichoke dip or hummus

    * You'll use ⅓ cup Parmesan and 2 tablespoons parsley to cover 12 shamrocks, which is what you should get out of 1 pie crust. But you can re-roll the scraps of dough to make more shamrocks. If you do, then you'll need ½ cup Parmesan and an additional tablespoon of parsley.

    Supplies

    pastry brush
    baking sheet lined with parchment paper

    Instructions

    Cut and top your crackers.

    • Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Unroll pie dough or puff pastry.
    • Cut 12 shamrocks using a cookie cutter.
    • Brush the tops of each shamrock with egg white.
    • Combine Parmesan cheese with parsley.
    • Sprinkle over the shamrocks.

    Bake

    • Set your pie crust shamrocks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Bake for 7-9 minutes until golden brown.

    Pro Tip

    • You can re-roll the scraps and make more shamrocks, or just brush the scraps with egg white and the cheese and parsley and bake until crisp.

    Serving suggestions

    • Serve immediately with spinach/artichoke dip, hummus, or just by themselves.

    Variations

    • Sprinkle on some seasoned salt for a more robust flavor. 
    • Swap out cilantro or basil for the parsley for a different flavor profile. 

    Storage

    • These shamrock crackers are best served the day they are made but can be kept in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
    • I recommend reheating any crackers that are more than a day old in a 300-degree oven for 4-6 minutes just to crisp them back up before serving.

    Shamrock-shaped pie crusts topped with Parmesan cheese and fresh Italian Parsley are baked to a golden brown and can be served with your favorite dip.

    • 1 teaspoon flour
    • 1 store-bought pie dough or puff pastry, thawed
    • egg white or milk
    • ⅓ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
    • 2-3 tablespoons fresh Italian parsley finely chopped
    Instructions
    1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2. Lightly dust a cutting board with flour.
    3. Unroll your pie dough or puff pastry.
    4. Cut 12 shamrocks using a shamrock-shaped cookie cutter.
    5. Brush the tops of each pie crust shamrock with egg white.
    6. Combine Parmesan cheese with parsley and sprinkle over top of each shamrock.
    7. Set your pie crust shamrocks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    8. Bake for 7-9 minutes until golden brown.
    Recipe Notes
    • You can re-roll the pie dough scraps and make more shamrocks if desired.
    • Serve the same day they are baked.
    • They will keep for up to 4 days if stored in an airtight container but should be reheated in a warm 300-degree oven for about 6 minutes to crisp them up before serving.

        Tell, miss thang, that between e-mail subscribers, Facebook Fans, Pinterest, RSS, Google Connect, and Twitter I have somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 fans!       Quick, easy, tasty and attractive - we like that. One question: How do they taste if you store them in a container with a tight lid? In other words - if they're room temp. when served.

        Hi Tavette, I tried that because we didn't eat all of them once baked, and they were much better right out of the oven. If you do store them, just heat them back up in a warm oven to crisp them back up.
