You may not be able to drink from these Red Solo Cup Cakes, but they are sure to be consumed just as quickly as any liquid inside a plastic cup at your next party.
What casual party is complete without drinks served in red cups? The plastic cups have become a staple at pool parties, backyard bar-b-ques, casual picnics, and pretty much any party held on a college campus.
When General Mills asked me to create some cakes that look like the iconic cups, I didn’t have to look much further than my own pantry for a model for my cakes.
To create these fun party desserts, I baked chocolate cupcakes, stacked them, added chocolate ganache (which makes any cake taste heavenly,) and wrapped them in red modeling chocolate.
I was asked to fill my cups with something that looked like beer so I did my best to turn whipped cream into something that resembles the golden liquid. If you are making these for kids, you can color your whipped cream “drink” to look like anything you like.
Once I had them all finished I set them out on my table and stepped away. From a distance, they really did look like Solo Cups filled with beer.
You can see the step-by-step tutorial to see how I created these
Mini Red Cup Cakes over at Tablespoon.com.
Last spring I also made these Beer Mug Cakes for Tablespoon.com.
Check back soon, as I’ll be sharing a more kid-friendly version of these popular cakes. These Root Beer Float Cakes not only look like a root beer mug but their flavored root beer too.

The "song" is now stuck in my head but its worth it! Those are too cute!
Very creative. Love them
They really do look like red solo cups and I would way rather have a cupcake than a beer! 🙂
I haven't had beer since college, and am pretty positive I never will again. Yuck! But, cupcakes = YUM!
your trick worked Beth! when i first saw these i thought, oh i didn't know you could bake inside mini cups?! HA i shoulda known you made them edible too! 🙂
Cool! I'm glad they look so real.
What a cool idea! These could so easily be chocolate milk for the kiddos. You really never cease to amaze with your food crafts!
I love the idea of filling them with "chocolate milk." That's my kind of drink =)
