Make a quick batch of popcorn balls using the microwave then dress them up to look like gruesome Popcorn EYEballs for Halloween using candy clay.
Homemade popcorn balls are a classic treat to make at Halloween but it has been many years since I whipped up a batch of the candy coated treats.
Standing over a stove stirring a pot of boiling sugar is not something I really enjoy, so when I set out to make these popcorn eyeballs I decided I'd find a way to make the recipe easier. I wanted to use the microwave to create the candy coating for the popcorn balls.
It took a lot of testing but I finally got the recipe to work out perfectly.
By combining Dixie Crystals Extra Fine Granulated Sugar with corn syrup, butter, and some white candy melts your popcorn balls will have a wonderfully sweet flavor, a chewy and crunchy texture, and a vibrantly white color.
They are so easy to make and you don't have to stand over the stove stirring boiling sugar. You don't need a candy thermometer either.
Each of these caramel-coated popcorn balls can then be transformed into these creepy-looking eyeballs which are perfect for Halloween. You can use candy clay to make the iris and pupil of each eye so your treats look and taste fantastic.

I love the idea of "not standing at the stove and cooking sugar"! Your spooky but yummy popcorn balls are awesome!
Beth
Me too. I don't know why, but I just don't enjoy stirring for a long time especially when I'm hot! 🙂
