Peeps are a traditional candy the Easter Bunny brings on Easter! Make this Peeps Recipe – Raiding the Carrot Patch Peeps Pudding to add a little something extra to your Easter Baskets! Your kids will go as wild as these bunnies for this delicious treat.
Whether you love or hate eating marshmallow Peeps, there is no denying they are fun to add to edible and inedible crafts for Easter. I personally love the sugar coated marshmallow bunnies and chicks, and haven’t gone without them a single Easter as long as I can remember.
As a kid, I found them unwrapped, stale and sticking to the grass in my basket every year, but that didn’t keep me from eating them, it actually, made me appreciate the aged, chewy and crunchy Peeps even more than those fresh out of the box.
My passion for Peeps escalated back in 2003 when I created this Peeps on the Farm in Ohio basket, for a contest that Just Born, the maker of Peeps, hosted.
My creation was almost completely edible and it was clever enough to win my home state division for which I was awarded a year’s supply of the marshmallow treats.
Guess what? You can win Peeps too, just for entering a giveaway (details at the end of the post,) as part of a Spring Hop Along Peeps Party. Twenty three incredibly talented bloggers have joined forces to create some spectacular projects using Peeps and I was invited to join in on the fun.
My affinity for Peeps made creating an edible craft for this party super easy. I found my inspiration from a project I created last Easter.
I knew when I made my popular Ravenous Rabbit Cupcakes that they required a crazy amount of work. I’m positive many more people enjoyed looking at these cute cupcakes than actually made them.
Each dessert used dozens of candy carrots and a cute little bunny butt created out of modeling chocolate.
I figured using Peeps Marshmallow Bunnies and fewer carrots would help simplify this idea, so hopefully more of you will actually re-create these for dessert this Easter.
These simplified desserts are still totally cute, don’t you think? Each bunny is nestled in a bowl of chocolate pudding that is topped with crushed chocolate cookies and once filled with some carrots resembles a garden that has been invaded by the bunny.
This idea could also be used on a cupcake or a bowl of chocolate mousse. You could even create an entire garden filled with carrots and bunnies on a brownie or cake.
Peeps Recipe – Raiding the Carrot Patch Peeps Pudding
You’ll Need:
white modeling chocolate (find recipe here)
orange and green food coloring
Peeps Marshmallow Bunnies
2 candy eyes per bunny
1 pink sugar pearl (round candy sprinkle) per bunny
1 white heart shaped sprinkle per bunny
corn syrup (to use as edible glue)
dessert dishes filled with your favorite chocolate pudding
crushed chocolate cookies (about one cookie per pudding)
Instructions:
Before you begin, if you need detailed instructions and trouble shooting tips for working with and coloring modeling chocolate read my Chocolate Making Tips page, here.
- Pinch off and color some modeling chocolate green.
- Color a larger amount orange.
- Pinch off pea size pieces of orange and roll into balls.
- Then roll into carrot shapes. Pinch off tiny pieces of green and roll into very thin logs.
- Cut into 1/4″ or so pieces. Use a toothpick to create a hole in each carrot.
- Dab a bit of corn syrup into each hole. Insert a green log into each carrot.
- Flatten and cut the green to look like leaves.
- Use a knife to make indentations across each carrot, if desired.
Your Peeps already have faces, and if you choose, you can skip the steps of adding decorations to the faces, but I like the more expressive faces and the buck teeth. If you do too, then use the backside of each Peep to create the new face.
Use corn syrup as glue to attach two candy eyes and one pink sugar pearl for a nose to each bunny. Break off the tip of each white candy heart to make buck teeth for your bunnies. Add them just under the pink nose.
Use a skewer or toothpick to poke a hole for the mouth in each bunny. Dip the tip of a modeling chocolate carrot into corn syrup. Press it into the mouth.
Fill a dessert cup with pudding, add some edible cookie crumb dirt, nestled in a decorated bunny, and add more modeling chocolate carrots. Then serve.
These festive Easter desserts can even be made ahead, and kept in the refrigerator. I don’t normally refrigerate modeling chocolate as it can develop condensation, but these carrots are so small, you don’t really notice it.
I’ve had my Peeps Pudding in the refrigerator for three days and they still look great. As I finished writing this post, I couldn’t help myself, but I had to raid the carrot patch myself.
I just finished gobbling up one of these dessert cups and to my surprise found the Peeps to be really soft. They taste just like they do right out of the package.
I guess the next time, I’ll have to let the Raiding the Carrot Patch Peeps Pudding Cup sit out for a while so my Peeps get a bit more chewy and crunchy, just they way I like ’em.

My favorite way to enjoy peeps was to give them away to others!
My favorite way to enjoy peeps is through decoration! They look so cute with spring flowers.
My favorite way is to enjoy giving them to others.
So adorable!!
Peeps are the best!
HA! I thought I was the only one who preferred stale peeps! Y'all have made me feel … well … closer to normal! LOL
Hilarious:@)
These are adorable!
I love to open the package of Peeps and then let them sit for about 2-3 days until they are dried a bit. They are chewy that way and so much better.
I LOVE all the ideas above. Super cute stuff.
These look awesome! I love the stale peeps, too. 🙂 My Gramps was a big gardener and for his 65th birthday we made a garden sheet cake. Instead of using modeling chocolate for the veggies, we used marzipan. Just offering that as a suggestion!
That's a great idea. I don't know why I never think to use marzipan. I need to try it:)
These would be such a big hit around here! Saw you on Looksi today and I got sucked right into reading all about modelling chocolate. Can't wait to try it out!
Thanks, Courtenay. I'm happy you stopped by from Looksi. I'm new to their site and am happy people are finding me because of them. I love working with modeling chocolate. It tastes so much better than fondant. I've done a lot of projects on Hungry Happenings, using it. Hope you have fun trying it out.
With chocolate are so good!
I have never been a fan of peeps on their own since marshmallow isn't my favorite. That's why I LOVE all these ideas–mixing the marshmallow with other amazing treats sounds delicious.
did I already comment!? These are adorable…as usual from you!
Super cute ideas! I just like to float them on hot chocolate!
I absolutely love that you added more expression to their faces…those eyes are totally making me laugh!!!
Wow, these ideas are great!
Very cute. Love the peeps. 😀 Mmmm…
These are so cute! I love to eat Peeps fresh out of the package, dipped in chocolate. So good!
I love Peeps… but agree with what some others have said that they only seem right at Easter, so that' usually the only time I buy them. I'll eat them any ol' way but recently I saw them as a topping option at my local Frozen Yogurt joint. Peeps in FroYo… why didn't I ever think of that?! Yum! 🙂
You took the Peeps to the next level of cuteness! So cute!
OMG hehehe I am dying over the cuteness!!! I love all of your work so much Beth (your basket creations is absolutely incredible!!!) Such a fantastic addition to the Peeps party! So glad we got to collaborate 😀

This is hilarious! I love your idea… so creative!
I think I remember seeing your entry before on the Peeps site.. 🙂 I agree that stale peeps taste better than fresh.
This may be kinda strange but a freind introduced me to drying them out a little abd oh my goodness they are wonderful that way …..=)
Love this idea ….thank you!
I love Peeps! My big sister and I love to sit and catch up over a small box of chicks, we have always shared them during the Easter season ever since I was a child.
Sooo cute … even Peeps eat their vegetables!
Chocolate carrots are my kind of vegetables too!
Thanks for sharing a link!
OMG, how cute are these?!
OMG, how cute are these?!
These little guys are so cute. Who would bother them in the garden? Love 'em!
Oh this is so cute! And thank you for the instructions for the modeling chocolate. Even as a child, I was the only one in the family to like the marshmallow treats. SO I got to eat them all!! I prefer fresh but if they
are a bit stale, I will still eat them.
I adore these mini carrots, and I would definitly go with the bowl of chocolate mousse
So completely clever and cute! I adore these, Beth!!
These are adorable!
Oooooooooh I love how you gave them faces!! GENIUS idea!!!
I love your Ohio Farm Peeps! I'm doing a Peeps on Earth diorama this year – I was actually supposed to do it last night. Ah well, maybe tonight. The pudding is fabulous with the carrot-eating Peep!

omgoodness how cute. I love peeps anyway you can imagine. I am old enough to remember when you could only get peeps at Easter. I am so glad they offer them all the time now. We made a Peep cake for Easter last year. It was so cute.
Oh, me too. I always anxiously awaited the arrival of Peeps in the grocery store each spring.
I will have to look harder cause the only time I see them is at the holiday
So adorable!! Love the big eyes on them and I love them stale! Thanks for playing along!!!!
