Hiding hearts inside cupcakes, cakes, and even breads has become very popular for Valentine’s Day. When I went searching for an easy version of a holiday reveal bread, I found none. Most breads that are baked with shapes inside, require two risings and aren’t ready to eat for 5 or more hours.I’m impatient, especially when I smell fresh bread baking. I want it now.

So, instead of making a yeast bread, I chose to make a quick bread and an amazing one at that. My loaf is encrusted with Parmesan cheese. The crunchy exterior not only adds amazing texture, but the entire loaf is flavored by the nutty cheese.

Adding a heart inside, just makes this bread all the more special.

The best part is, your bread will be ready to eat in about 2 hours. If you are like me, and you just can’t wait, you can cut into this loaf while it’s still hot, having it even sooner. It’s best to wait, but I understand that can be impossible sometimes.

Hello Beth! I have 2 questions. First, do the pink hearts in the bread get over baked? Second, do they adhere to the rest of the bread or do they get pushed out of the slice? Thanks!!

Hi Natalie. No, the heart did not get over baked, I kind of under baked them to begin with.If I were going to make little heart shaped bread just to eat, I'd bake them 2-5 minutes longer. Yes, the heart is part of the bread. I didn't have any issues with the hearts coming out. That might happen with a yeast bread, but this dough is so sticky that it stuck right around the heart.
