Halloween Snacks - Cheddar Cheese Pumpkin Pita Chips

Published: Oct 24, '13 · Modified: Oct 10, '17 · By: Beth · This post may contain affiliate links.

Grab a cookie cutter and make some fun Halloween snacks for your party. These Cheddar Cheese Pumpkin Pita Chips are quick and easy to make. Kid's and adults love them.

Halloween is just a week away and if you are like me, you are scrambling to get everything ready for your party. Thankfully I have an little extra time this year to cook and decorate for our Day of the Dead bash.

For almost every party I host, I grab some cookie cutters to cut shapes out of something. Often it's cheese, or tortillas, cookies, or even fruit. For our Mexican buffet we are going to serve lots of skull shaped tortilla chips with cheesy dips and salsa. But, as I mentioned before, my original plan was to do a pumpkin carving party, and I had already put together this recipe post, so I figured I'd go ahead and share it.These pumpkin shaped pita chips coated in cheddar cheese are quick and easy to make and I'm sure I'll serve lots of them when I finally get to host that pumpkin themed party. We just enjoyed them as a snack.

    Cheddar Cheese Pumpkin Pita Chips

    Ingredients and Supplies:

    oil for frying

electric fryer or a large pan with a candy thermometer

    pita bread

    rolling pin

    mini pumpkin cookie cutter
    paper towels

cheddar cheese popcorn seasoning (I used Kroger's Cheese Sprinkles)

    Instructions:

Heat oil in fryer or pan to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Divide each pita in half. To make it easier to cut out your pumpkins, use a rolling pin to roll each half out flat. Cut out pumpkins using cookie cutter.

Fry pumpkins, flipping over once, until both sides are golden brown. Remove from fryer, place on a piece of paper towel, and immediately sprinkle with cheddar cheese popcorn seasoning.

If you want your pumpkin stems to be brown, wipe the cheese off the stem area of each pita chip.

Store in an airtight container for up to a week. If you keep them in a metal tin, they will stay really crisp.
