Making homemade pita chips is super easy so why not have some fun making them festive for Halloween or Thanksgiving? These cheddar cheese Pumpkin Pita Chips taste great on their own but also make a great addition to a charcuterie platter.
If you have made homemade pita you know it's as easy as cutting pita bread into wedges or shapes, frying them in oil, and adding seasonings. You can alternatively bake them in an oven or air fryer.
I make pita chips often. I love their crispy texture and savory flavor. For our Pumpkin Carving Party, I thought it would be fun to make pumpkin-shaped pita chips. To make them orange, I sprinkled them with cheddar cheese popcorn seasoning.
These pumpkin pita chips taste great on their own. They really don't need to be served with anything, but they'll look great on a Halloween cheese board.
Cheddar Cheese Pumpkin Pita Chips
Ingredients
oil for frying
pita bread
cheddar cheese popcorn seasoning (I used Kroger's Cheese Sprinkles)
Supplies
rolling pin
electric fryer or a large pan with a candy thermometer
mini pumpkin cookie cutter
paper towels
Instructions
Heat oil in fryer or pan to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Divide each pita in half. To make it easier to cut out your pumpkins, use a rolling pin to roll each half out flat.
Cut out pumpkins using a small pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter.
Fry the pita bread pumpkins, flipping over once, until both sides are golden brown.
Remove them from the fryer, place them on a piece of paper towel, and immediately sprinkle them with cheddar cheese popcorn seasoning.
That's it! They are so easy to make.
If you want your pumpkin stems to be brown, wipe the cheese off the stem area of each pita chip.
Storage
Store in an airtight container for up to a week. If you keep them in a metal tin, they will stay really crisp.
