Fun Fiesta Foods

Cinco de Mayo or “Fifth of May” commemorates the victory of  Mexican militia over the French army in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Although Cinco de Mayo is a national holiday in Mexico, it is mainly observed in the Mexican state of Puebla and in the United States where festivities surrounding this holiday began when word of the victory spread to Mexican miners in California. It has been celebrated continuously in the U.S. since 1863, spreading in popularity across the country as an observance of Mexican American culture and pride. In the Hungry Happenings kitchen I’m excited to celebrate our diverse American cultural heritage by creating and sharing these Fun Fiesta Foods for Cinco de Mayo!

Here are some creative and festive recipes from Hungry Happenings and friends that will make you stand up and say “Ole”!
