Ice Cream Cone Goldfish
Brightly colored orange ice cream makes the perfect base for these cute
Ice Cream Cone Goldfish and you don’t need an ice cream machine to make it at home.
Over the weekend, the sun was actually out and I took full advantage of it by hanging out at my friend’s pool. We have had the gloomiest, rainiest summer I can ever remember, so when the big yellow ball showed up in the sky on Saturday, I had to get outside.
After a wonderful afternoon spent poolside, I headed inside to get changed and noticed something out of the ordinary on the kitchen counter.
In a small bowl was a big googly eyed goldfish. This pet was on summer vacation, home from college, and taking up residence in the kitchen. I marveled at it’s plump body and bulging eyes. He seemed to be intrigued with me as I peered in the bowl, but I’m sure he’ll never know that he became the inspiration for these ice cream cones.
These bright orange goldfish are made using homemade no churn orange ice cream. I’ve really been having fun trying out all sorts of different flavored ice cream this summer and love that I can flavor and color the ice cream for each individual project. These goldfish could be made using orange sherbet if you’d like to skip the step of making your own ice cream.
Each fish is decorated with fins and tails made from orange candy melts and two big googly eyes. They’ll make fun treats for a pool party or just a lazy afternoon spent poolside.

No Churn Orange Ice Cream (makes about 6 ice cream cones) –
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1/4 teaspoon orange oil
orange food coloring
1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
orange Candy Melts (about 1/5 ounces per ice cream cone goldfish)
2 Extra Large Candy Eyes

Combine heavy whipping cream with the orange oil and a few big drops of orange food coloring in a mixing bowl. Beat on low speed to combine then beat on high speed until the cream is whipped to stiff peaks (when you lift the beater, the peak of whipped cream should hold it’s shape.)
Add the sweetened condensed milk and beat just to combine.
Place in a freezer safe container and freeze for at least 3 hours.
Meanwhile, you can get the decorations made. Melt the orange candy melts. (See my Chocolate Making Tips Page for detailed instructions.)
Pour into a small squeeze bottle (I use a squeez-it mold painter and it works great) or a disposable pastry bag fitted with a small round pastry tip. Set a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet.
Pipe the orange candy melts onto the parchment paper to create a goldfish tail, fins, and mouth. Follow the images above as a guide. You’ll notice each of my decorations, other than the mouth, has one or two pointed ends, those ends will get inserted into the ice cream to hold the candy in place.
Once you create the pieces pop them in the freezer for 3-5 minutes until the pieces harden. Remove from the freezer and let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes, then flip the pieces over. You can see that the candy surface is flat and smooth. If you’d like it to look more like the other side, then pipe on some more orange candy melts to give each piece some texture. Pop in the freezer for a few minutes, remove and they are ready to use.
When your ice cream is ready, fill an ice cream cone with the orange ice cream then add a nice round scoop on top. Pop back in the freezer for 10 minutes and make a few more cones, as needed.
Follow the steps in the image above to add the fin, tail, mouth and eyes to one cone at a time, placing the cones back in the freezer as soon as you get all the candy placed on it. If your house is really warm, you will need to work quickly, or add just a few pieces, freeze, then add more.
When you are ready to serve, pull them from the freezer and enjoy.
