I am in love with Koala Bears and had a bunch of chocolate dipped cookies laying around my house. So I decided to create these Koala Oreo Cookies in honor of how unbelievably adorable they are. They are cute, but are even better when they go in your mouth!
This is a tiny little post today, just like these cookies.
After I finished making my Koala Pretzel Pops, I had extra grey candy coating and didn’t want to waste it, so I dipped and decorated these Koala Oreo Cookies. I just had to share.
I know I need to get busy working on recipes for all of the upcoming holidays, but I just haven’t been up to it, yet. I promise, I’ll get to them soon.
Koala Oreo Cookies
melted white confectionery coating
black and brown candy coloring
Modeling Chocolate Decorations –
white modeling chocolate
black and pink candy coloring
black food coloring marker
*You’ll need black, grey and pink modeling chocolate to make your Koala cookies. Find the modeling chocolate recipe, coloring directions, and chocolate melting tips, here.
non-stick baking mat (like a Silpat)
fondant rolling pin
2 small oval shaped metal cutters
#7 or 8 pastry tips
Melt white confectionery coating and stir in some black and some brown coloring (or melt a few black and brown candy coating wafers and mix them in) until you get a nice brownish gray color.
Dip cookies in gray candy coating. Remove using a fork, and allow the excess to drip off. Set on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Freeze for 5 minutes.
Roll some grey, black, and pink modeling chocolate out on a non-stick mat using a fondant roller or on a cutting board that’s been lightly dusted with powdered sugar.
For each Koala cookie:
- ears – cut out 1 oval then cut the tip off using the long edge of the oval cutter
- inner Ears – cut 1 pink oval (a bit smaller than the grey oval) then cut the tips
- nose – pinch off a piece of black modeling chocolate, roll it into a ball then pinch it between your thumb and finger shaping it into a triangle with rounded edges
- eyes – cut 2 black circles using a #7 or 8 pastry tip
Attach the ear pieces together using a small amount of water. Use a knife or kitchen shars to make slits all around the outer eat, to make them look furry. Attach to the cookie using water or melted candy coating.Attach the eyes and nose to the cookie using water. Use a food coloring marker to draw on a smile.
TIP: To attach modeling chocolate pieces using water, brush or rub a light coating of water on the side you want to stick to the dipped cookie. If you rub it in, it makes it nice and sticky.
TIP: To cut circles using the pastry tip, press the pointed end of the tip into the modeling chocolate, turn the tip upside down and tap on the counter. The circle will fall out. I usually cut several circles before turning the tip over and tapping the circles out.
