Here’s a fun twist on a classic holiday candy. Instead of dipping peanut butter fudge in chocolate, use peanut butter cake balls instead. These Cake Ball Buckeyes will be a fun addition to any edible gift this Christmas.
Once glance at these candies and you’d think they were the real deal. Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Buckeyes originated in Ohio, where I live, and everyone makes them at the holidays. I’ve been making them since childhood, and thought it would be fun to try something new this year.
The original candy is made using peanut butter, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla which is rolled into balls and dipped in chocolate leaving a round of peanut butter fudge showing through to look like a buckeye.
Instead of using the peanut butter fudge, I baked a peanut butter cake, added a bit of frosting and some peanut butter, rolled them into balls, dipped them in chocolate, and now have a fun new twist on a classic candy to add to my Christmas candy trays.
This version of the buckeye has a really intense peanut butter flavor but isn’t nearly as sweet as the original. It has a lighter, more delicate feel to it too.
