Our basement movie theater is finally getting carpeted today. It’s only taken six years to go from studs to dry wall to painted walls to carpet. I can’t tell you how excited I am to curl up tonight in our nice cozy new room and enjoy a movie night.
I picked up a copy of Saving Mr. Banks at Walmart. I never got a chance to see it in the theater and it’s been on my to do list since it came out on video. We’ve invited some friends to stop over and watch it with us.

I’m sure they will be complimentary about the new carpet, but they are going to go crazy when they taste the popcorn I made. Don’t you just want to reach into your monitor and grab a handful?
Each crunchy little nugget of popcorn has been tossed with a rich and creamy peanut butter coating and is nestled among tiny Twix Bites. The little candy bar pieces play so nicely with the popcorn and I made a huge bowl of it to serve along with some other snacks.

Twix Bites popcorn recipe

My Twix Peanut Butter Popcorn is really decadent, so I needed to balance that with some lighter snacks. While I was grabbing the Orville Redenbacher popcorn I needed from the snack aisle at Walmart, I stocked up on a few more things I thought we could munch on.

Peanut Butter Twix Bite Popcorn ingredients

I figured some traditional popcorn was a must, so I got Orville Redenbacher’s Movie Theater Butter. To balance out all of that decadence, I got some sea salt and some cinnamon sugar Life Choice delight bites. This is the first time I’ve tried these snacks, and it definitely wont be the last. They are light and airy yet crunchy and full of flavor.

100% Edible Popcorn Bowl recipe

I got really creative with most of my snacks and just plopped them into bowls. An ordinary bowl just wouldn’t do justice to my over the top popcorn, so I decided to make a popcorn bowl out of popcorn. The entire thing is edible. Cool, right?
Today, I’m going to share with you the recipe for making the Peanut Butter Popcorn Speckled with Twix Bites. You’ll have to come back tomorrow to see how I made the 100% Edible Popcorn Bowl. (The tutorial is now posted.)
It’s going to be hard not to sneak some of these snacks before tonight. If you were having a movie night, what snacks would you serve? Is there something you can’t do without when watching your favorite flicks?

Twix Peanut Butter Popcorn

1 bag Twix Bites
1 bag Orville Redenbacher’s Naturals Simply Salted Popcorn
16 ounces white confectionery coating*
1 cup peanut butter chips
2 ounces dark cocoa confectionery coating (about 20 wafers)*

*If you don’t have a lot of experience working with confectionery coating, read my Chocolate Making Tips page for detailed information.

popcorn recipe ingredients

Cut Twix Bites in half.
Pop the Orville Redenbacher’s Naturals Simply Salt Popcorn according to package instructions. Remove un-popped kernals and pour popcorn into a very large mixing bowl.
Melt white confectionery coating. Heat it in the microwave on high power for 1 minute, then stir, and heat on high for 30 seconds. Then allow the candy coating to sit in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. Remove bowl and stir. If wafers are not completely melted, heat on high for 10 second increments, stirring after each.
Heat dark cocoa confectionery coating in microwave on high for 15 second increments, stirring after each until melted.

Peanut butter popcorn glaze

Pour peanut butter chips into bowl of melted white candy coating. Stir, and wait 1 minute, then gently stir again. The chips will melt slightly.

Pour popcorn onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Spread into a thin layer. Drizzle with the melted dark confectionery coating.
Freeze for 10 minutes or refrigerate for 15 minutes. Break into small pieces.

If you want to store this for more than a day, it’s best to keep it in a metal tin. It will stay crunchy and fresh if kept in a tin for up to a month, but I bet it wont last that long.

I’m pretty sure that by the time the movie credits roll tonight this entire batch of popcorn will be gone.

How awesome is that?! Your new home theater AND the popcorn! It looks delicious and if I hadn't actually read your post, I would never have realized the bowl was really popcorn too! I thought it was glass. Yum!

I'm working on the tutorial for the popcorn bowl right now and will have it posted soon. It looks so cool in person and it was fun to watch people break it apart and eat big chunks of it.

That popcorn does make me want to reach inside my computer screen and grab it. Not just a handful, the entire edible bowl! Hope you had fun in your completely finished movie theatre!

It's hard not to eat then entire bowl especially when the bowl is edible too! I love having carpet in our movie theater. I don't enjoy sitting on the floor, but couldn't help it last night. The room is so warm and cozy now. I love it:)
