Oh, how I wish I were still on that balcony looking out over the Pacific Ocean. Recently, I had the pleasure of traveling to Southern California to the Destination Hotels & Resorts properties as a reporter for The Daily Meal, an on-line magazine featuring articles on food, chefs, restaurants, entertaining, and travel.. My first story, “Three Luxury Resorts to Visit in Southern California,” was published this week.

Being a food blogger has opened a whole world of opportunities to me and getting to travel and act as a reporter is by far the most exciting thing I’ve done. I really enjoy writing and love traveling even more than cooking. The only thing about traveling that I don’t like are flight cancellations and delays which happened on this trip, but honestly I can’t complain as I got to spend an extra day enjoying sunny Palos Verdes instead of rushing home to snow.

During my stay in California, the time we spent at L’Auberge Del Mar and our dinner at Kitchen 1540 were definitely highlights of the trip. This oceanfront hotel was so charming and beautiful. You can see my slideshow and short article, “Dining in Del Mar in Southern California: Kitchen 1540,” over at The Daily Meal.

This innovative dessert from Kitchen 1540 captivated my senses. Even being so full after eating fantastic appetizers and a selection of pasta, beef, lamb, and fish for dinner, I couldn’t resist taking a few bites of several desserts. When my fork broke through the crisp graham cracker exterior of this dessert and molten sweet potato mousse scented with nutmeg and cinnamon flowed out onto the plate, I was giddy with excitement. Never before had I been served a dessert quite like this. I can’t wait to try to recreate this at home.

During my stay, I had the pleasure of receiving three different massage treatments and will be writing about the award winning spas in my next article. I’ll also be sharing a story about the Falconer who works at Terranea and how we got to witness the release of three rehabilitated pelicans back into the wild.
I know travel writing is a bit of a departure for me here at Hungry Happenings, but now that I’ve gotten to experience this, I think I’d like to write more about my travels. I’ve been fortunate to have traveled extensively in the United States and to far off places like France, England, Wales, Russia, Mexico and Canada. Next up is Germany. We’ll be visiting our exchange student this year in her beautiful hometown of Hamburg and we plan to travel to Belgium and the Netherlands during our trip as well.
When I travel I always come home with ideas for my food and I have a few from this trip that I’ll be sharing in the near future. I hope you enjoy hearing about my journeys.
